My father talked about taking a trip up to Alaska via the Alcan Highway back in the late 1950's.  But it wasn't paved back then, and most of the two weeks of vacation would have been spent in traveling up and back.  Still wanna go there some day.  Just gotta remember to take my gold pan with me.
