Description
So as you know, in the original U.S narration for the episode "Tuneful Toots", Michael Brandon accidentally refers to Rusty as female (nice job, Brandon), which was later on corrected and changed to male.With all the (honestly) ridiculous controversy about how many genders there "really" are that happened last year, I decided to turn this into a meme. Enjoy!

I have no issue with female characters being part of the Skarloey Railway, but I find it stupid how (even for a show aimed at children) they would make an obvious male-named character female.
I don't know if HiT intentionally tried doing that on Rusty as part of the various sugar-coated edits the American narrations receive or if it was a possible slip-up. The world may never know....

I think overall (since the U.K version refers to him as male) it's just the U.S. trying to "think of the children!" too much.

I do remember some time after the episode first aired that someone on the Sodor Island Forums emailed HiT about the issue, and later received an reply from them stating that Rusty was always female. However, it was most likely that HiT tried to cover their mistake but then noted from The Railway Series books that Rusty is indeed male, and so, the mistake was corrected.

I will say, on another note, George Carlin did give Rusty a pretty.... ehm, feminine voice (kind of similar to the voice he gave Daisy), so as a kid, I was a little confused if Rusty was male or female, until I read the books and my question was answered.

To me I always knew Rusty was male, but GC's voice to me always came across as a sweet innocent child. So I always imagined Rusty as a kid.

Yeah, I mean, Rusty was always considered male in the original books, as you pointed it out, so how the hell something as stupid as this happened is beyond me.
I do find it odd why during the Britt Alcroft days he was never referred to by gender.

I've never heard of that show (or movie, whatever it is). In any case, when I was younger, I thought Rusty's real name was Russell, but everyone called him Rusty for short.
