nah.if u know what your doing the male never gets eaten.feed the female lots before u put them together.iv never had it happen to me and iv bred lots of mantids.

I dunno how to classify her expression. Is she surprised he suddenly showed up, or thinking how delicious his face looks to eat.
But I love my Mantids. Which means I love Mantis love. MAKE ME MORE CUTE BUGGIES FOR ME TO PLAY WITH! YAY!!

Favorite position... Male feels safer BEHIND the head and claws of the female least she eats him. Plus, she's bigger and would crush 'im if SHE was on top.

beautiful none the less, but i still couldnt handle them. they're too big. babies fine. bigguns NOWAI! their little grippy feet give me the willies and their strength and weight only exacerbate the creepiness....
but holy tamales! i will be all up in their faces takin pics! lolz

i bred mealworms for a while. that was enough!
i really dig the starkness of the BG. just enough shadow to not be totally blown out and give it some depth. it also enforces the focus on the subjects, which themselves are stunning...
i dont think i will ever tire if mantid photos.

nah she dont..that will only happen on a few species of mantids..as long as the female is fed well theres no reason for her to kill him

i woke up this morning to find the male on my lcd screen and the female where i left her.

you leave your mantids free.....you dont keep them in a glass tank or something? wont they fly away outside? what if they're accidentally perched on the sofa and you squash them when you come sit on it?

what makes u say that//all my mantids are kept in tubs or cups,cages ect.only the males can fly really good..females are to fat to fly.

theres a perenially flowering tree next to our house....so lots of insects buzz by and Ive seen a few mantid species on the tree. I tried to feed them mosquitoes and one creobroter species became adjusted to it also. so I fed it for a few days....but then after that I never saw it again.I think it was a female.
even after feeding it regularly, it was bit too free spirited

nah she wont..thats just a myth.if the female if well fed and you give the male plenty of room to get away after mating then she wont eat him.if its an old male thats on its last legs mayby..i breed lots of different mantis species and i cant remember the last time a male was eaten.The european mantis is more than likely to do it but again if shes well feed it very rarely happens,probably happens in the wild more if theres not alot of food about.but in culture if the female is well fed theres no reason for the female to eat him.
