Except of course we know she actually has a home now, with a bedroom and everything, from the "Flight to the finished" episode, so she couldn't possibly be an orphan open for adoption. And there's no chance that the show-runners would put her in with abusive parents as a backstory, so that's ruled out too...

Then Scoots ends up in a heap of trouble when her payments on the house double out of nowhere, and her last payment or two simply 'vanish' from their records. Of course they'll want to meet her parents over that.

You're right. That is the simpler answer.
But not seeing one trace of Scootaloo's parents or member of her family after four seasons is kinda insane.
I actually stopped reading a fanfic that I liked the idea of when the opening paragraph gave the idea of Scoots parents being on a second honeymoon, which was so painful to read from a writer's standpoint I couldn't continue.
My only hope is that if they do show Scoots' parents, is that they give a ACTUAL reason for why we haven't seen hide nor hair of them. (I am aware the writers thought Scootaloo was a background pony.).
Even the episodes focusing on Scoots never show her family.
There was a fanfic that took that Equestria's economy for all appearances seems to be doing EXTREMELY well, that managed to create a relatively convincing scenario of Scootaloo buying a small house using paper work fake names for parents that didn't exist (the fanfic goes out of its way to show how much trouble Scoots had to go through to pull this off, and that it only worked cause this is Equestria).
Yugi's mother in Yugioh appeared in one brief scene for a joke in the original series an that was that. I actually LIKED that the dub cut that out ironically.

I wonder were some people take that wisdom from. I have seen harder things happening in shows watched by childs.....
