I listened to "Libera me from Hell" from TTGL and "Warriors" by Image Dragons while I was drawing the last 3 pages, and "Blaze" from Escaflowne while I was drawing the first.
I suggest to listen to them too.

Ah, I love the way everything is colored with the dark shading to add dramatic effect, you really captured the old style feeling and I applaud you greatly for that ^_^

I hate to think though that when the cartoon comes to this point in time that it won't be near as epic DX

I hope this comic won't be cause of disappointment for the show now XD
Also, this work really great for an anime like Gurren Lagann, I don't know if it will actually works as well for a show like Steven Universe

Did I miss something?  I thought Jasper and Peridot were fighting for Homeworld, for Yellow Diamond.

I think that Peridot, Lapis and Jasper will enter the Crystal Gems formation. Peridot will be exyled by Yellow Diamond, addressed as "defective" because she learnt on earth too many things that don't suits her role. Jasper will be left behind because she's too uncontrollable, and failed her mission. Lapis will join because she's Steven's friend. 
The two "evil" gems will be welcome by Steven, always cheerful and friendly to everyone, even his enemies (remember the "have a nice weekend") because now it's time for Steven to create his OWN "crystal gems". 
Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl are Steven's friends, but basically more teachers than mates, and are the Rose's "Crystal Gems". Not Steven's. 
Usually in this kind of story we're at the point that the main character (Steven) shows to his actual "enemies" (lapis and jasper) something different from everything they knew, this bringing them to his side (something like Vegeta in Dragonball, starting as a villain, but ending up being one of the main "good" characters)
Jasper and Peridot were shown too early in the show to stay as actual vilains, the time was more the one still introducing the main characters group. 
I think that by the end of the second season Lapis, Jasper and Peridot will be by Steven's side.
