Description Well today is the "Inmaculada Concepción" which from my atheist viewpoint translates as yet another "Bank Holiday": a day when banks close their doors to the great unwashed just to underscore our dependence on these august seraphic institutions....

(Last night I finally cleared my "IRL wurk" and as it's a holiday I don't expect any more until at least tomorrow , imagine a WHOLE day free!!!)

This is an astounding  "4 light" job > Hearth / Blue backlight /"Lamp room" + "Lamp lamp" (the "Lamp room" excludes the lamp itself whereas the "Lamp lamp" includes only the lamp...Confused? Good! ...My subsurface scattering doesn't like visible light, so that's how I got round the problem)  Was going to make her shift slightly transparent, and TBH it looked quite good but it quadrupled render time

Amazing work! This is so well done, I can almost feel the warmth of the fire! Awesome Christmas pic, bravo!

Another of my "Cheeky style" pics: the viewer has to provide the background because I'm just too busy
Actually at midnight on 24th December I replaced this one with the same picture but instead of the woman it featured a ghostly "Santa" who'd eaten the cookies and drunk the milk, I left it up for 12 hours and only 1 person saw it (comment for christmas day). Then I erased the "Santa" version forever.

I do have fun

I really like this, everything about it. I even understood everything you said about lighting, I was nodding.

Though I do wish you'd bit the bullet and quadrupled your render time.
(Would it not have been possible to strip the scene and just render her and her dress with back light then layer it subtly? I feel cheated!)

.... Some how I think can get by without yet another 3D "naughty pic" to add to its existing +500 million... Plus this was a family friendly "magic" pic  - I think phraught was the only person to actually see the "magic" on Christmas day (now erased and lost for ever).

As for layering, it wouldn't have made much difference.... The extra render time was only due to the transparency: the nightdress has a physical thickness (nowadays I always try to make dynamic cloth "thick" like real clothes), so the poor old ZX Spectrum would have to calculate SSS through 2 semi transparent layers

Are you using Marvelous Designer to make your own drapes etc.?

I have used MD (via a friend's PC) fantastic prog but too much exporting/importing OBJ/MDD, C4D has its own dynamic cloth engine + "C4D cloth nurbs " (smoothing and thickness settings), added to which I often just fit and pose standard Poser clothing and then convert it to OBJ so I can apply a few frames of dynamic to allow it to "sit" better on the model.

Right, I am off to investigate the price. But of course I will be shocked, and then probably cannot buy older, (read cheaper), versions anyway.

Really REALLY gorgeous work, i love this scene!!! Everything is just the way it suppose to be; how the clothing falls down the body, the lights, and the great props that are used here...Fantastic, and a big Fave!!

madaigual In reply to Ikke46 [2015-12-10 14:55:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Ikke46!
No ambiguity? Half the comments seem to think she's "stealing" the cookies rather than putting them on the plate (TBH I'm not sure myself)

Ikke46 In reply to madaigual [2015-12-10 16:16:43 +0000 UTC]

Ssst, she is on a diet, and has so much hunger in the night, that she steals (yep!) the cookies from Santa...Nothing wrong with that, so she thinks, Santa has to go on a diet to ...She is just mad that he doesn't have to starve until he has a killer body, just like her husband wants...

And you're very welcome

Amazing work, and the lighting is superb. And I really like how the material wraps and hangs. Which clothing is that? It looks great in any case. High class work indeed.

Thanks for your kind comment
The clothing is just 6 heavily triangulated rectangles (I'm a big fan of "triangulated rectangles", makes life simpler)

3DPerson In reply to madaigual [2015-12-10 15:10:33 +0000 UTC]

In that case, you work marvels with them! Best usage of triangulated rectangles I've seen!

Santa what?
When the last child has left the family house, Santa and his disillusions are gone with him...
So that she's right to eat the cookies - a good replacement for the lack of sweetness, especially during those days...
Her face is really expressive, kind of "Just try to think to eventually to imagine to stop me from taking a cookie..."
I love the light and the atmosphere. I love the material of her gown.

Awesome picture, my friend

 Ahhh Y-Phil  , honestly?
No Santa?
Please don't take the magic away

I like to think that Santa is still out there somewhere, admittedly he hasn't visited me for at least 46 years but he's a very, very busy man and being so very busy we, as parents, are understandably outsourced to help him with his work

(Next you'll be telling me that it's also strange to talk to magpies...Which I do every day)

Phyl-CGI In reply to madaigual [2015-12-10 12:16:31 +0000 UTC]

It's not weird to talk to magpies, IMO, as I'm talking to my computer everyday...

(So you're still on speaking terms with your computer? That's nice! I just shout at mine and then it freezes and crashes.... Touché monsieur Computer! But who do you think pays for the electricity, eh?)

Phyl-CGI In reply to madaigual [2015-12-10 13:06:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm often telling it to move its f..ing ass when the computations are too long, or if it looks stuck in computing a very specific place, especially when almost all threads are "sleeping", and it remains a small 10-15% in the eighth because of complicated stuff while rendering...
As if it could help...
Same idiocy as pressing multiple times on an elevator's button, just to be sure it will come faster...

Ah - this is lovely!  Besides looking amazing - as always - just a great look for the holidays - which I suppose today is.   Can't quite tell if she's leaving or snatching a cookie - but the clock on the wall would seem to indicate Christmas is just minutes away...

So - if today is IC day - does that mean the gestation for a jesoid is...  17 days?  (Yes, I'm burning in hell - at least according to some - but that's fine, all the cool people will be there).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to phraught [2015-12-10 12:48:58 +0000 UTC]

"Leaving or Snatching" / "Devils or Angels" ....preconceptions, it's a bit of a psychology test, isn't it?
The answer is pretty obvious...She's a woman!

A "jesoid"   ....Yep, straight to hell phraught (I'll see you there )  (Although theologians claim he was born in late April, which stands to reason really, Roman administration was par excellence, so they would never dream of arranging a national census that would clash with such a busy international public holday, would they?)

Hmmmmm....   psychology test...   obvious...   she's a woman...

Tricky...

Ah!  I've got it:  She's arranging them!  Again.

So - a four month gestation?   Perhaps he/she/it was an alien?  That TransMogrifier™ is everywhere!

Seems to be a genetic inheritance, too.
The only thing I miss about Christmas is Mum's fruitcake (and the mince pies).
Now that the climate's getting hot, hot, hotter, fruitcake is off the freebie list. (Of course, being overweight, diabetic and 70 years old has something to do with that, too!)
