Animated gif on how I made this.
2. If you want to work with this many stock items you should make a group in your layerpallete for every item. In this work each items has about 3 or 4 adjustmentlayers with a clipping mask and has 1 or 2 layers containing his own shadow. You quickly loose the overview if you don't do groups.

I watched the animation at the link you provided. Very smart of you to remove one of the columns it realy opened up the piece. Can perspective ever realy be perfect in 2d lol Its fine there is so much to look at and enjoy!!

but there's one thing that bothers me.
