I've seen a lot of "stop sopa"/"stop pipa" stuff over the last few days... but no one seems to say how. Especially for those of us not in America.

ok, I can understand the USA, but I don't get why the UE is introducing it into life- why is Europe acting as the US and why we didn't know about is since now? Even Microsoft has oficially condemned the Act in its current form; google, wikipedia and others. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I'm afraid that every e-mail, every message on fb,msn or other messenger is going to be checked. It seems to me like a total and deep infiltration.

Doesn't mean PIPA (Protect IP Act) is, and it's essentially the same thing without the excuse of copyright infringment (which is utter BS anyway). It just targets IP addresses instead of domains.

So does this mean that we as America will become like China now with the government controlling the internet and controlling what we see, hear, and share with each other to the point that we no longer know what’s going on within our own country.

The US gets its own 'The Great Wall' like China has. That's not just the local hard disk of an intelligence service they'll be protecting. Btw, it's not like the US police, FBI, CIA and what else aren't scanning every possible website on possible 'criminals' (criminal is the English translation for terrorist). Candy stealing 12 year old terrorist got caught because he showed his bag of full of stolen candies on Facebook, but there are without a doubt many more examples of stupid terrorists posting photo's online of themselves with the stolen items.

The US government derailed from civilised behaviour many, many years ago... It's actually sad to see and hear those in the government still haven't changed. Will it soon be like it was/still is in the Middle East (that's where the US promotes free internet)? Or will it soon be like it was in Nazi Deutschland? Only the future will tell...

That's what some would like, yes. America is becoming less and less free lately. Our government is becoming too prominent and they're controlling too much of what we do.
