The mythos behind the Transformers universe is a sadly draconian labyrinth.
No two fans can really agree on what is and isn't canon.
For instance, many think that Orion Pax was rebuilt into Optimus by a single old man, who did it secretly. Only a few folks-- those who knew him to begin with, could recognize that Optimus and Orion were the same person.
Or that the Decepticon movment was only considered terrorism up untilΒ Megatron took the reins-- then it was a full-blown invading army.
(Megatron wasn't a big fan of guerrilla warfare, and having your favorite celebrity tell you that now is the time for invasion is surprisingly good motivation)
That bit of nerd'dom out of the way-- this was freaking AWESOME!!

Actually, the mythos behind Transformers differ, because since its creation, there has been several incantations, each taking a different take with only some aspects remaining the same.
I don't follow IDW continuity (I read only a few "spotlights" and the first, two arcs of the main story), but how Optimus Prime came to be is almost always different, dependable on what universe you look at: in the original cartoon Orion Pax was rebuild into Prime by Alpha Trion, while the more recent incantations present him as earning the right to become Prime.
Similarly, the creation of Cybertronians themselves wary from being made by Quintessons to children of Primus.
In deciding "canon" you first need to establish which of the continuities you wish to refer.

I think the point of this series was to streamline the origins of the Decepticon/Autobot conflict a bit. It's really a pretty great re-imagining of stories that I thought I knew about the TF universe...and the artwork really sells the scope of the world!

Well paid advertising is how the site provides free advertising, and besides, it's really not that different from what Google and Facebook do when you use those sites. (No offense or anything, really hope I didn't give that impression)

I don't use Facebook, and I don't understand what you mean about Google. There are banner ads on every single page of DeviantArt. I'm sure Facebook and Google do the same thing. But it's not like Google puts ads inside of your Inbox, and disguises them as messages. At least not that I've ever seen.
But it's like I already said, DeviantArt already has a place for paid advertisements - the Notices section.

In terms of google I meant the fact that you get advertisements and shopping reccomendations based on what you search. But I can see how it might annoy people when you put it that way. I guess I'm just not bothered by it. My apologies if I offended you.
