Description
Dangle a pen in front of your eyes long enough and the rest of the nonsense will follow...I really don't know what I was thinking when this happened... except that I imagined I was drawing a 'tankha'... (a Buddhist religious art form where the entire composition is drawn in a single line without lifting the pen off the paper...)
Pen, Acrylics and boredom on good ole C'board.

cool mix of urban stylings surrealism and yellow. the brown is almost cardboardy giving an impression of authenticity and inspiration.

Very interesting layered composition. I love the hole with the streaky background peeking through. So sculptural!
This has a great collage feel to it - and I'm surprised I respond to it so favorably because most collage work I don't like.
The figures are nice and eerie.
Great piece.

how a bunch of lines convey such moods

The black looks like it's going to bleed over the sun-like thing. At the same time, though, the sun's rightward position makes me feel like it's out of harms way, that even if the black covers everything up, the sun will still shine through. And the black's obviously negative because everything above it seems melted, twisted, and burning.
There's also the separation between the cardboard and the paper. The people are rooted in and connected to the black mass and very literally apart from the fire behind them.
Er... yeah. That's just what I saw.

bleeding a black tar on a slab of cardboard... depressing... and it looks a bit like the underside of my car at the moment, also depressing. whatever the case, something has to be replaced in these fellows lives. but the only question is how do you replace something when your hands can only keep your face out of the tar?

your comment is (litrally) the story of my life deconstructed... we do stretch ourselves into loops, dont we?

i used to... but got a bit worried by it's seeming lack of integrity... like i was cheating when I let the machine substitute what my hands should be doing.

the positive and negative space is great
I love the balance.
I have an interpretation of it
but I'm sure it's far from what you intended
and I have a problem with sharing ideas.
but I love artwork that can make me think.

interpretations ARE fun becuse they could be diametrically diferrent from what is intended... puts your individual thought process into perspective...

okay well...
the bottom half reminds me of a city landscape below the sky(what with the yellow circle cutout on the bottom right resembling the sun, and the black brushstrokes as dirty buildings, for example) and then the other half reminds me of the things we don't see in everyday life.. because they're either abstract emotions, ideas, thought processes: the framework that holds everything together but isn't exactly tangible. the yellow background makes me sort of uneasy, because it's usually associated with alarm or unstable situations, but there's no doubt it fits in perfectly with the painting. and the characters seem to be clutching onto the other half (the cityscape), almost like they're in pain? not to mention their expressions are agonising, and they seem to be holding their hands to their heads in despair.
that's the longest comment I've ever written.. haha I'm sorry =/

Blimey madhs, this is some of the most depressing work I've seen in a while, no offence meant!
The twisted, dysfunctional bodies on the top look to be in total paralysis, helpless suffering. And yet the composition draws the eye down, into the ground, where the dead lie: here we see hope, a flash of light, a respite from the suffering above.
This may just be me (or just because I've still got Mozart's Requiem mass in my head) but this is wonderfully morbid, and evocative of a deep dissatisfaction with life. Well done, this touched me.

hmmm... yes... i'm not too comfortable sharing my truly depressing phases... feels too naked. But I'll say this much... you've hit the proverbial nail on the head... again. Your insight into what often gets overlooked touches me.
