Description
I would like some critique on this pleaseI'm trying to draw a handsome man that looks to be 25-29 years old
This is my character Shadow (silly name I know.. I might change it soon).
I'm trying to get his face right for a reference of him so I can replace this horrid one here:

This piece isn't finished but any advice to clean it up and make it look better is appreciated. Thanks

Dude! I love his eyes I feel like its pretty great for no reference. I think if you used more references for study it might help you improve structure for the realism style. I know there are websites that have tons of photos set up on an adjustable timer form people to practice drawing figures/faces/humans/etc. (I seem to have misplaced them at the moment, sorry >.<) If you can think of someone (a celebrity for example) that Shadow resembles you could start with photos of them and then make changes accordingly. I haven't done figure drawing in almost a year now and I remember how tough it is, but practice is the key. Keep going, dude.

thanks so much Kat! It's good to hear that I did something right haha. I will have to look up references more because the longer I don't look at the pic and come back the more I see that I need to fix (if that makes sense).
I think of Shadow as a mixture of Matthew Macfadyen (head shape and structure) [link]
and matt felker (chin mostly but eyes and stuff lol) [link]
I didn't use those guys for this pic but I think I might make a crude photoshop of those guys together to make some base to work from XD
anyway glad you like and thanks for the tips!

looks like you jumped the gun here a bit i think its best to start in a black and white gray scale. the light source is not defined enough it looks as though your going for a realistic style. if you have taken any color theory i suggest you use that as well the colors are all way to even need to blush up hit cheeks and nose.

thanks Nick! I will definitely add more colors to his face then and fix the really flat hair lol.
I probably should have done it in gray scale first but I was just doodling and it started coming out nicer than I thought so I asked for some critique. There was no reference used (that's probably obvious) so I think that's part of the reason why it's flat. I'll take a look at people's faces that I think would look like his and try to add some dramatic lighting to it to make the colors right.
Thanks for the help Nick!
Also could you link that piece you wanted me to collab with you again, I lost the link >.<
