Hahaha, I just couldn't resist to post it here. But I think it should be in scraps where it belongs.People, this book is definitely from hell. Really. It's so devilishly hard that I have to spend 1+ hour for each page. I'm tired, so very tired. I haven't been posting anything here on DeviantArt for almost 2 month, because I dedicate all my time to this #@%& book and its 'relatives'.
If you are an outgoing person (like me), this book will turn you to a real nerd (like me these days). That's because you will just have NO, absolutely NO time for anything except studies. But if you already are a nerd… well…then it's your lucky day. You'll like this book, I promise.
It's not fair that native English speakers can speak English by default while we, poor Europeans and Asians, have to learn it word-by-woooord, rule-by-ruuuule, slowly, so sloooowly.
Btw, you know, there is a book called 'English as a Second F*cking Language' ([link] ). That's exactly how I feel sometimes.

Oh, we have it in Russian as well (borrowed from German), so I am used to it from childhood.
But now, when you pointed it out,I see that it's really a funny (to say the least) word from English point of view.
But I'll tell you about a funnier one

Mostly German and Russian. I do German in school, and Russian at home. I know bits and pieces of Japanese and French though, enough for limited conversation ...

If language governs thought patterns (there's good evidence that it does), then by learning to speak English you'll become like:
- Americans
- Englishmen
- Pakistanis
- 3/4 of Canadians
- lots of Indians
- Australians
- Hong Kongese
Are you Absolutely Sure this is what you want to do to yourself?
Those of us who are native speakers had no choice but to become like this, but if I could do it all over again, I'd prefer to have started out Icelandic.

Well, I'm Absolutely Sure that I DO want to become an Australian, it's my greatest dream, even obsession. And not as an ignorant immigrant, but as an equal member of society.
Also, I really love this language. It is so logical and so poetic at the same time.
And besides... it's the 21st century now, era of the Internet and globalisation. Decent English nowadays a must-have skill.
So, don't try to deny that you are very lucky to have this natural avantage
