It's a French novella that was turned into an animated movie, which has a Burtonesque style of animation.  And get this!  The author of the original story is the speaking voice for his own protagonist, Petit Jack (Little Jack).

Yup.  I took French in junior, and senior, high school as well.  My teachers always raved to my mother about my pronunciation and knack for conjugating verbs/passion for French culture.
