Hi everyone!!
When I created Maejlings, I envisioned a fun, colorful breed with lots of unique genes and mutations! However, I'm only so creative lol, so I've decided to host this contest so that way others can help contribute to the breed as well if they want ^^
End Date: April 30, 2019
Rules
- Use this lineart for your entries: Maejling Lines
- No extra horns/wings/manes/anything that modifies the base lineart/etc. -- those changes are reserved for group positions !!
- Please keep in mind, if your mutation is chosen, it can be used by the group to sell imports for profit. You will not be given credit for every design with your mutation, but you will be credited for the mutation as a whole!
- Do not steal/copy ideas from other members or other breeds !!
- Multiple winners will be chosen on a rolling basis !!
- Mutations are typically colorful and cover much of the body, while unique genes are more "natural"/subtle.
- Two customs of your mutation/unique gene!
- any coat color allowed, but no double mutations!
If your entry is a runner up, you win:
- One custom import of any "old" mutation.
- any coat color allowed, but no double mutations!
Winners
- Primitive Spots (PsPs / nPs ) by Solloby - Unique Gene
- Kahal (KahKah / nKah) by Solloby - Unique Gene
Runner UpsAaverie - Jester
arxzero - Orca
Solloby - Ribbon

Sorry for flooding you with entries but I just keep getting ideas and I figure, the more the merrier?
Bracelet (or a better name because this one sucks tbh):
I coloured each leg with a different example of styles.
Misty:
Soft darker and lighter markings in a wavy, swirly pattern like misty or fog rolling over the horse.
Bubble:
Large overlapping circles, they can be any colour or lighter/darker than base coat.

Um, I'm a little confused. I'm seeing winners and runner ups, but it says its doesn't end until April 30th. Is there a typo or was that something different???

I did not know that meant winners would be chosen before the deadline. Just seems strange.

I tried something a little more colourful ;;;
Entry 4: Jester JeJe
This gene causes black diamond pattering anywhere on the horse, can be large or small but usually medium sized. this also caused the base coat to saturate. this gene goes over white markings. does not affect eyes or mane/tail
ex:
jester on silver black snowcap appaloosa
jester on cremello splash
jester on overo dunskin
jester on flaxen red roan

Entry 3: Eclipse
The opposite of a graying horse, as eclipse means the horse gets more black over time, always starting at the legs and muzzle. The rate a horse is eclipsed varies, as genes and the environment plays a role. Usually a horse eclipse faster when it's cold or in the winter, so there has been cases with foals born half eclipsed, but no horse is fully eclipsed until they are at least 10 years old. The eclipse mutation does affect other mutations/markings and covers them, unless they are homozygous dominant. It does not affect the hair color in any way.
Examples of Eclipse stages:
Bay foal with signs of Eclipse gene - Half Eclipsed - Near Full Eclipsed

Entry 1: Orca
White marking on the jawbone to the chest and belly, as well as on the side of the neck under the ears. This resembles the markings of an orca. It's different degrees of the marking, from minimum to maximum. If max, it never reaches the ears or back or fills the whole face. It is possible to get orca in black, but this is really rare. Will go under other mutations/markings.
Minimum to maximum.
Entry 2: Mask
Face markings in different shades of white and black, which affects the eye color of the horse. If the markings are white, the eye is black and vice versa. The marking has to touch the eye to have an effect, so some horses with it can have mask over one eye and have a normal color on the other. This is also the telltale sign that a horse has the gene (the solid colored eye or eyes), if it has other black or white markings on the face as well, like veil, shroud and shadow.

Entry 3: Clown/Harlequin/Pierrot (could be called any one of those) ClCl/HqHq/PtPt
This markings will always go above every other marking and mutation. A white base extends no more than halfway down the neck in either a straight line or may appear "painted". a wide range of colorful "makeup-like" markings appear on the face. It can depict anything from scary to cute. and be as minimal or maximal as desired

primitive spots would work great as a unique gene instead of a mutation! Do you mind if it's a unique gene instead?
also, some of your links are broken D: do you mind reposting them?

Sure, unique genes are just as awesome as mutations <3
Oh dear, looks like it breaks stash links after the first 5.
Here are the last ones again:

rad!! unfortunately, the panda mutation is used by another (and very popular) breed lol, so it can't be used. But i love wadjet !! i was actually thinking of making a unique gene called "eyeliner" or something that was very similar. so you mind if the wadjet idea is used as a form of a more open-ended unique gene?
also, I owe you two customs of primitive spots (and wadjet/"eyeliner" if you agree to the terms above). You can send me a note with what you'd like, or just comment them here ^^

Hey if it makes you feel any better the panda design isn't copyrighted or anything and is a fairly common mutation in a lot of breeds, not just nords and drakes, etc. So you're ok to make a panda gene for your maejlings. Animal based markings don't belong to the popular horse breeds haha

I only know Padros lol, Maejlings are my second breed ever xD
Sure, Wadjet is so specific so having some different options for the markings would probably work much better.
I'm so glad you like my designs <3
I will have to think up some customs for sure! I'm so excited

Ok I've decided for my customs! Are these ok?
For Primitive Spots can I please have:
Blue Roan (as blue as possible) with Prim Spots (darker than base coat) with blue eyes and star
Sooty Bay with Prim Spots (darker than base coat) with green eyes and badger face
For Kahal can I please have:
Grey on Bay (so black mane/tail and slightly on feet/knees but mostly white) with black wadget style Kahal, purple eyes
Black Blanket Appaloosa with gold wadget style Kahal and blue eyes

sound great!! the only issue is i'm probably going to remove appy patterns from the breed, so could you come up with a new idea for your last custom please? ^^

Solloby In reply to frog-lake [2019-03-19 01:44:13 +0000 UTC]
Oh, what'll happen to existing appys like this one?
If you need brushes I have round spot brush (like her) and oval spot brush like this only cleaner (this one has fade effect): Adopt for Sale/Offer - Blue Roan Appaloosa

frog-lake In reply to Solloby [2019-03-19 01:52:27 +0000 UTC]
Nothing, they just won’t be able to pass down the appy gene to offspring ^^

Is there a list of markings that Maejlings can have?
Like can they have Chubari/Tetrarch spots?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
frog-lake In reply to Solloby [2019-03-19 15:27:17 +0000 UTC]
they can have any coat color/markings. the only markings currently being withheld are appy patterns due to logistical issues with genos.

Solloby In reply to frog-lake [2019-03-20 00:49:58 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah I'm sure they interfere with a lot of mutations!
So for the black appaloosa, can he be black with some white chubari (egg-shaped) spots instead? Just a few on the shoulders, back and rump, like 5 or so spots.
Just want to give him a little bit of markings beyond plain black c:

Entry #2, Lightning Tobiano (Lt)
appears on all coats; affects mane and tail when touched; can be minimal or extensive but needs to start at topline and go down, it doesnt need to touch the bottom, but can if desired; will show under white markings and mutations like zebra, calico, jaguar, gilded, and oracle; shows over mutations like chroma, stardust, and aura spots
how i made it: set stabilizer to low (i used 0)
on the first layer draw jagged lightning marks stretching down from the top line. copy the layer
on the copied layer, blur it out to make the glowing effect

Entry #1, Heart Dapples (Hd)
Appears on all coats, goes under white markings and most other mutations and genes.
how i made it:
on one layer, airbrush white onto the back/middle/neck of the horse, lower opacity
on a layer above that, draw hearts in different sizes in white, blur them out, and lower opactiy
on a dark coat
on a lighter coat
