Very nice work here, just curious as I have played around with Terragen a little, is the lava a setting you can pull off or is it retouched to produce that amazing effect.

This is really nice. I ed it, but I really wish you could resubmit it at 1600x1200.

Never know what unique environments and effects can be created with terragen! I think you did a good job showing me ( or us ) that it is possible and made a very good pic!
Good work

Looks great, but why in the hell did you put it 3 Dimensional, might want to put it in Scenery...

I really like it. Especially the lava glow contrasting with the rest of it... Looks like earth about a billion years ago gj

Whoa, truly awesome!
I've tried doing stuff in terragen but haven't even come close to manipulating it into doing what I want (not anything like this anyway).
Was this done with the new upcoming version of Terragen?

Looks pretty amazing and fantastic. I think everyone's already commented on the lava glow lighting and the surface mapping, which I agree are amazing, but I want to point out the amazing angle he picked out, and the way that the sun rays interact with that angle. A high angle typically would give the impression of deminuitiveness (is that a word?) and this is nothing if not a high angle. The lava is then even made smaller because of it's (abstract?) physical distance from the (abstract?) camera. The contrast between the dark mountains brings out the lava glow which would in other cases seem small. The over all effect of the angle gives us a broad view of something that spans immeasurable distances, rather than making it seem small.
Finally, the sun rays which are perpindicular in origin and coming from the corner of the image give it realistic feel; that it is happening somewhere on a planet lighted by a sun, but as importantly, gives us the impression (because of the camera's position) that the sun is falling or rising, which further adds to the redish/orangey feeling of the piece by giving a psycological sense of what time it is and the colours connected with that time.
(though whether magaan meant to do that or not, I don't know - but it really works well, and on one level or another, I'm sure he realised it's profound effects)
To wrap up, an excellent render of a nicely worked scene. Max? Maya? Milkshape? I'm guessing Max, but whatever the software, the result is excellent.

What I love about this is there are subtle details beyond the big bold canyon-lava thing. Nice work on the strata, they look nearly natural, which is no mean feat. You should also be proud of that intense atmosphere. Simply beautiful
