Description So. Well. Here you go

This was far out of my comfort zone and even though it's pretty sketchy and the perspective is rather wonky in places, I'm quite proud I drew it. Let me know what you think!

Eldun, as might have transpired, is the capital of Candana, the home moon of the shrimpgoats. Urban gardening is a pretty big deal, and many citizens grow some of their own food, neighbours often working together in shared gardens. Wood is still a common building material as it's comparatively light, which is all the more relevant because everything is stacked vertically why of course

This is very nice. However, once I enlarged the picture, several flaws became obvious which are not so in the thumbnail. The most noticeable is that you do not appear to know how to ink properly. You want to draw a confident line, and that means drawing the pen across the page in one swift motion, even if it does not conform perfectly to your pencil guideline. The more you do this, the more accurate you will become, while also getting a smoother linework. (I also recommend not using a ballpoint pen, though I can't tell from here whether you did or not.) The current state is really a shame, because I can tell that your painting is top notch, and looks exactly how a watercolor ought. However, if you painted differing color values, it would really contribute to the illusion of depth and have your scenes "pop out".

I don't think your perspective is as bad as you worry that it is; I certainly think this is a nice urban scene that is difficult to correlate together without creating a mess, but I think that your different elements cohere together well. In my humble opinion, this would have turned out much better if you had drawn it as a monochrome pencil work, so play to your strengths! (Alternatively, take this constructive criticism to heart in order to shore up your weaknesses.) Just remember that monochrome only works if you add shadows, which are lacking here.

Now, it's cool how you went for an ambiguous scene. It's either the city outside, or a mall inside, and we do not have enough information to know for sure. But if it is an indoor mall, then that makes it look much cooler, as this reminds the viewer of the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon. It is interesting that the city appears to be solely inhabited by centaurs.

Thank you for the detailed critique! I'll try to practice my lineart more, and also keep in mind what you said about colouring/shading for future cityscapes

This may have many positive things even if it is not obvious to the naked eye.

With a general design of the place, having an abundance of details in colors and warm colors, how you play with the planes and how the overlays, the sensation of closeness and depth are so notorious that it seems that one is sitting precisely in the first person.

And speaking of the details, they are intense and they abound as well as the great style of stroke used. It shows that you have taken time, effort and dedication to make this universe of images contained in one.

I like the technique and the idea executed e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="367" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

I'm very happy to hear you liked my drawing! However, I cannot accept this as a critique, because it isn't one. A critique should point out both things done well, and things that could be improved. Here is a little guide that might help you next time: What is a Constructive Comment?

Thank you very much for the compliments though! C:

I actually like the design of this one! Especially the plants and gardens all over the place! The only thing I would suggest is to keep an eye on perspective next time (if you would like some perspective lines to play with for a digital project you can download them for free online or I think Photoshop has a way for you to drop them in on a canvas).

Thank you! Yes, I tried with the perspective but I just... failed I guess I just need more practice, will definitely keep working on it.

I'm not so good with building perspectives myself either I mean, the mass majority of my own drawings are outside in nature - definitely something I want to keep working at as well though!

Most of mine are too (or at least don't have corners, ha) XD Artificial environments are just so much less forgiving when it comes to perspective!

Yeah, I'm not so good with size ratio, but I remember a whole lesson with T-squares on the drawing boards I took in high school for Wheel class. It was kinda fun, but I definitely need more practice. Organic environments I love to do - they're much more forgiving~

A pastoral scene just in time for spring! You did a great job on this piece; it's rich in detail and charm, with vegetation, shimmering glass, and exotic swirls in every nook and cranny. You certainly brought this scene to life! It makes me curious, too: is there any philosophy behind their plant-keeping, and how do they garden so efficiently? Hehe. One way to improve this piece would be to add more depth. You could do this by making the foreground bridge (the upper, tan one) more detailed, and by adding simple shadows to the figures. A little bit of shading goes a long way!

Fantastic job overall, this is such an ambitious picture! It shows how important it is to step outside our comfort zones!

Thank you! The plants just keep the microclimate pleasant and also help feed the massive amount of people. Many of the plants they cultivate are native to the mountains (like them), so creepers and climbers with shallow root systems and low nutritional demands, which certainly helps grow them in the cities.

Thanks for the tip! I tried to add a little depth with lineweight and such but I'll try to make it better next time

Oh wow, what an awesome explanation, thank you! It makes sense to rely on the easiest-to-rear plants... like potatoes, beans, rice, etc, and their alien equivalents. Your worldbuilding is always so vivid and your art's headed that way too. Keep it up! ;w;/

Wow I'd love to visit there, the stained glass windows alone look very alluring, and all this green makes it looks like a peaceful oasis despite the urban context. I love the little silhouettes of the shrimpgoats going around their business, it's interesting to follow them and see what they're up to!
