Angelique is a navigator, so I drew her on a ship, with a sextant (disclaimer: I have no idea how to use a sextant, I just looked at some pictures )

Overall I have to say that your drawing is a very good drawing. I do like the detail you put into her outfit that she is wearing. She is a very unique character here. I'm not a nautical person either so I am not sure on the proper use of a sextant either but I am almost sure it's a tool to measure the stars? So should be used during the night or close to that time. I like your use of shading in this picture so again, overall I like what you did here and encourage you to keep drawing and keep going.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, I'm happy to hear you liked the drawing! However I can't accept this as a critique, since it isn't really constructive, in terms of giving me an idea of how to improve. This might help your future critique endeavours - Constructive Commenting: Guiding Questions
Also, sextants can be used with the sun as well c:

She looks very nice, I could see her being a very helpful hand to have on a ship in the middle of the ocean for if the crew got lost, depending on if her eyes are also robotic allowing her to use the little trinket to see the stars in the daylight too for navigation purposes. The ocean looks nice too, the shine and shadows are distributed very nicely among the waves where you can see it.
My main problem with this is not being able to tell if she can see the stars in daylight or not, i mean she seems pretty happy but I feel that if you put up her other hand a little and hand her pointing. Like when your looking through a picture search page and you slightly hover your finger to tell where you are. Just a simple motion like that would help convey that she is in fact able to see where she is. Also her shadow would be a oval below her and not behind her, and would be more lengthy with how tall she is

You can actually use a sextant with the sun and not the stars, but your point about pointing (teehee) of course stands - I just wanted her to seem really confident and casual about making her measurements.
I'm not sure I understand about the shadow - if the sun was very high and nearly above her, shouldn't her shadow be short? Or is it mostly the angle that seems off?
Either way, thanks for taking the time to critique!

Ah i didnt know you could use them in the daylight thats my bad 😅 also cool shw does seem cery confident about where she is
Ah so the sun is above her kinda? The yes her shadow would be short but it looks like shes looking towards the sun which would make it long

That's fine, like I said, I didn't know much about them either XD Thank you again! I'll make sure to keep that in mind about consistent light sources c:

Hi there! I'm a member from ProjectComment !
Whoa. Angelique is a very nice OC you drew. Looks different for a navigator, well mostly because of her arms, but I like it ! Too bad I didn't have time to take care of some updates on some OCs of my own whenever I get a little more occupied with something I do. Although, I'll still get there when I had the time. If I ever get to create another OC that's as interesting as this one, I'd say it will be worth the effort and time. Plus, it can help me improve my drawing skills.
Angelique's hair is really flowing by the wind, I love the style. I can't tell whether her hair's wavy or straight, but I love it either way. Her outfit is not so bad at all. The skirt is poofy, but it's cute. Those boots are totally rad. Her arms are robotic-looking since I see those red and green wires, but still, they're pretty cool.
There are two things I noticed. One, the shadow below Angelique is a little bit too short. It should've been just maybe a bit more longer. Like how it would look like when the sun is up past noon, or something like that. And two, her left arm is a bit too long. You could have shorten it at the right length so it doesn't look too big.
When I see a navigator like Angelique, I can wonder, "Where is she going? Is she gonna go somewhere new? What will await her out on the horizon?". I mean really, a "magnifique" navigator such as Angelique might be waiting for a place where she can navigate more until a breathtaking adventure is about to begin. If I navigate in where I wanna go, it'll be like I'm going on an adventure!

Thank you very much for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed my drawing I'll keep a sharper eye on my cast shadows the next time, for sure. I also see what you mean about the arm. Thank you!
