Description
An attempt at Speculative Zoology; this creature is a speculative species of Gorgonopsid, with a speculative crocodile in the background.Inspired by the endless plethora of Youtube videos I've watched on the subject of the Paleozoic Era recently; as well as a love for inventing speculative animals.

Thank you I'm thinking of doing more speculative zoology.

Permian Creatures sure were strange looking.

They were indeed; the Therapsids (mammal-like reptiles) such as Gorgonopsid, Dimetrodon and the Dichtodon (I am probably mispelling the last one) were bizarre cross-roads between reptiles and mammals. Crocodiles hadn't evolved yet; instead there were giant, predatory amphibians that filled the niche of crocodiles. The creatures of the Triassic too were bizarre and unrecognizable.

You mentioned crocodiles, there was this species of crocodile that had hooved feet and could run pretty fast. There was also a giant salamander creature that ate dinosaurs.

Yes, this crocodile was found in France Boverisuchus, it lived in the middle of the Eocene, after the dinosaurs, it had hooves on it's toes and seemed more adapted for life on land. There was also an armadillo-style crocodile; and another during the Jurassic that was fully aquatic, Metriorhynchus, with fins.
Yeah crocodiles were very diverse once upon a time; it's pretty impressive how an animal will evolve if given the chance, and fill all available niches.
The animal you are thinking of is Koolasuchus, one of the last Temnospondyl amphibians; living until the early Cretaceous.
It exploited environments that were too cold for crocodilians; until finally it was out-competed.
Have you ever watched the "Walking with" Series? It covers before the Dinosaurs, the Dinosaurs, and after the Dinosaurs. Koolasuchus is featured in the 5th episode of Walking with Dinosaurs.

Yeah, I watched the series when I was younger and when it used to be on Animal Planet. You can still find episodes of the series on youtube.

Yeah, on Youtube the only ones are really bad quality, most good videos get taken down. But I find them on Dailymotion.
I also like Prehistoric Park, Sea Monsters, all the other Walking with spin-offs; Planet Dinosaur.
It's a shame there are few programs about life before the Dinosaurs.

Yeah it is a shame, but Dinosaurs are apparantly more popular then what's the closest thing to Chimeras.

Yeah, I've always loved dinosaurs; it's only recently that I started taking an interest in other animals and historical eras.
