My love for LOTR goes way back, to the cold snowy nights in Germany tucked beneath my flower-patterned quilt, as my Dad sat on my brother's bed opposite mine, reading out the first few chapters of The Hobbit to us. I must have been about five or six years old then. I remember when we received the LOTR cartoon on DVD for Christmas about a year later. We huddled together on the sofa, a roaring fire in the fireplace and snow falling hard, but slow outside in the solitary night. When I saw the Fellowship of the Ring my parents were quite surprised that I hadn't been impressed by any of the gruesome orcs or Ring Wraiths. I was only seven, after all, and known to squirm and hide under beds at the sight of blood. Instead it just fueled my obsession with anything fantastical, and I can't tell you how much merchandise my brother and I bought. Soundtracks, posters, figurines, magazines, trading cards, board games, wooden swords...My bedroom was a shrine to Legolas.

LOTR is my favourite series of books and films of all time. I grew up with them. And if anyone says that J.R.R Tolkien's work is overrated, I punch them in the face.
