If Carol can absorb enough energy to go Binary, then I think that the fight in her favor. Then again, I think 18, like 17, was said to have an unlimited energy supply. And it'd depend on how comparable Carol's Binary form would be to the Super Sayian form.

Besides the flying brick stuff already mentioned, both Android 18 and Carol were absorbed in some way, that pretty much put them out of commission for awhile. Cell absorbed Android 18 and Rogue absorbed Carol's powers, which lead to the latter being unconscious.

Similar ice powers in similar rival games. Their matching is justified. If we're going by THIS logic though, we might as well have a battle royale between 18, Captain Marvel, Yang, Supergirl, Bubbles, or any fictional female fighter that just happens to be powerful and have blonde hair. Sometimes, just a small comparison is enough to make sense, sure it's sounds weak, but many Death battle episodes are made like that.
Some other exemples:
-Toph and Gaara don't have that much comparable abilities. Sure it's geomancy but the way they control earth is very different.
-Yang vs Tifa also, they were both beautiful girls that kick asses !
-Rogue vs Wonder Woman, do you even see the comparison ? cause I'm still searching xD Yes they are super heroin but as you said... It's pretty pathetic ^^
-Pikachu vs Blanka, electricty, that's all.
Sure it sounds very blur, but it's not the first time they did that ^^
Plus this battle was a surprisingly very requested one so hey ! Screwattack said there will be plenty of that in this season ^^
