It did come back as a "gritty" sequel called H.E.R.O. the Dial has been lost and is being found (and lost again) by various people in a more "realistic" setting. Their lives are changed for both better and worse. Throughout the story one man is constantly trying to find the Dial and it was eventually revealed that it was Robby (now an adult) trying to reclaim the Dial.
