Description
because I was bored and needed to practice. I'm so scattered that I forget what my own character looks like.her elbows and ankles are white. the white is only half her muzzle and goes in a stripe down her chin along her belly to about halfway through the tail. her claws are black, I just forgot to color those and it's late and I'm sleepy as hell.
the blank space up top? I wanted to type info there but I gave up. so I'll write it here.
She's an average-sized wolf with a somewhat unpleasant scowl on her face, but she's rather pleasant normally if one talks to her. the only colors she has are red, white and black (school colors anyone?). Likes to travel, walks long distances, gets into fights and mud puddles, etc. she does not travel with a pack, not for long, anyway. Once she makes friends with someone, she'll fight to the death for them. That said, she's pretty violent. Her mood changes abruptly; for a few days she'll be as happy as an ant in a bowl of sugar and be the most pleasant, polite wolf ever. but then she'll suddenly get cynical, angry, violent and go berserk, which pisses off everyone else.
the red on her paws go up and separate into a few scattered spots right above the main color. Why? it was her original character design that's why. the red around her eyes I think was to simulate crying blood, which I can't take seriously anymore after reading My Immortal. I won't remove them, however, since she looks too plain without them and though she never cries, she is often caught in a conflict or two with herself, someone else or both. I didn't want the white to get up too far on her muzzle since I wanted her to be somewhat unique. I think my obsession with dip-dyeing is getting a bit out of hand. the white belly was just because most wolves have some form of white on their bellies and I figured I had better not be super-goth with her (Goffik. aw, crap.)
so yeah. ignore it if you're not interested. move along, move along
and I really should not have to do this, but her design is mine. she's my representative since I can't draw humans to save my life, but I need something expressive. don't steal it.

Amazing. Pretty colours and cool deisng. I just can;'t get over how you draw the paws. they're so realistic and detailed. They look great! Got any helpful tips for me? Also, I don't know how to colour fur well... and I like the way you do it. It's nice and light but effective. Any help is appreciated (:

I'm glad you like how I draw my paws xD I actualyl started on a paw tutorial, but I ended up getting frustrated and I stopped. maybe I should kick it back up.
I guess written help would be to start simple with shapes. some of my tutorials (yes I have some) have that "mitt" method. I still use the same method. if I have problems placing toes I make small ovals to put them where they should be. middle toes are farther forward, middle claws should be nearly touching, yeah. references are sometimes hard to follow since... well a lot of them don't show their feet!
I actually went back to an old style for the fur, though. making curved V shapes to indicate clumps. making color darker near the base and lightening as it goes up. that's about all there is, really...
Thank you for commenting!!!

yes, they're great. (: Oh really? I think you'd help many people with a tutorial because your paws are great examples to learn from.
mhmm, really? Shapes? Everyone always just tells me to use real references, but I thank you for actually trying to help. Small ovals? I could try that, I've seen some tuts with shapes and stuff. I agree with you about the references.
Oh really? Well I've seen quite a few people that draw fur and colour it like that, but yours just looks more natural and nice. I don't know... it's just different in a good way. Wow, that's really all there is to it? I've drawn a picture of a person with spikey hair and used that sort of method but I didn't think it worked the same for wolves fur.
I find the tricky part to drawing fur is how to make the face look fuzzy as well as the body. Because ususally, you use the curvy V technique for neckfluff and tails and maybe some of the backleg fluff.. don't you? That's the part I find always turns out weird looking.. so I have no idea how to do that. Any advice on that?
Oh, you're so very welcome. I thank you for all the helpp you give me! ^^ Alot of people just say "practice" and nothing else. Sure, practice helps, but so does other little tips and tricks. I'd comment on more of your stuff if I had the time. I don't right now, sorry.
Sorry for writing so muchh.

I already have two tutorials, but it always seems like I learn more stuff right after I make one. *raeg*
yeah References are great for basic shape, but it's hard to get the fine details of anatomy from it. as gross as it may be, dissecting animals is a great way to learn anatomy, or some people may have reference photos of muscle structure (but then again it's usually anti-fur sites that show that stuff... but they do help greatly with shading!)
Aww you're such a sweetie xD something I figured out that may help you: the less geometric it seems, the more natural it looks. when I can finally get that concept pounded into my thick skull I think it'll be an improvement.
the face looking fuzzy is a hard thing to do .A. I agree on that. I shade the face smoothly, but the eye ridges I usually fluff up a little. it makes it look fuzzy but it's easier to do. I make individual strands for the back fluff now, it looks less awkward, but make it smaller near the shorter fur on the main part of the leg, I guess. I hide the base with a thigh muscle.
it's no problem C: yeah practice is the best way to get better. that's why I'm usually open for requests and I join lots of contests. they're great practice for anatomy and you get better every time. complete with incentive!
no problem I think I wrote more than you xD

that's good. I'll go look for em (: That just means you're improving alot ^^
Really? I didn't think dissecting could help that much, but yeah.. it'd be good for mucles and stuff. I agree.
So i've been told. (: so make it more 2-D and less 3D, or what do you mean by less geometric? I think I understand... sorta.
Wow, that's some really good explination! i would have never noticed the thigh muscle trick. That's very clever and i tlook great the way you do it. :]
Exactly. I agree with you totally. I just dont have the time right now to do contests, unfortunately. Oh well, I'll keep trying
hehe, I don't know. It's close. Oh well, it was worth reading every word ^^

yeah it actually helps a lot. seeing things in real life lets you study the depth and things in more detail than photos.
the shapes like the paws and stuff made a little more organically shaped, a little more complex, like instead of cubes make them shaped like bean-ish things or something /descriptionfail
yeah, it's a bit of an exaggeration of anatomy, but... it works I guess
yeah no one does lately xD
I'm glad it was worth it, I don't want to be throwing out random rants for nothing .A.

Yes, that makes sense. (: I just think it'd be tricky to draw if they're walking around everywhere. Unless you have like a photographic memory. I don't :]
that wasn't a description fail (; I know what you mean. I just really need to study some paws.
nope, not random rants (: It's all good. Thank youu once again for your help ^^

yeah, that's why it's easier to dissect stuff. they stay still >> /creepy lol
Paws are hard. practice does make perfect. but y'know.
no problem C:

You know when this would have been useful? LAST YEAR.
Well, if I ever decide I want to be nice, maybe I'll surprise you with another inaccurate picture of your wolf
