if you haven't found out already (i'm quite late), mmd is a freeware japanese animating program. it's super fun and easy to use and people make some awesome stuff with it!
if you're interested you should check out MMD Cup videos on youtube. they're some of the best and they can give you some insp!

I'm new to MMD so I am still learning. How does the images I get from this download become the background seen above?

you have to download the model and load it into the mmd program

the model comes up as a picture file which makes it look nothing like the one above. It looks more like a cut and paste than a background model
