Description
Except the readers, Raistlin.Okay, folks. If you don't know by now, I'm a HUGE fan of Dragonlance. In particular, a fan of Raistlin. I couldn't explain why, I just do. The series is EXCELLENT. If you like fantasy adventures, or if you like Dungeons and Dragons, I highly recommend reading(starting with the Chronicles trilogy). It's based on a DnD-type setting, and really develops a full, rich, interesting world with several novels detailing everything from the adventures of the main characters, to the minor races of the world that normally get skipped over completely.
This scene is pretty much right out of the book, "Brothers in Arms", where Raistlin has recently come out of an ordeal that left him shattered, with both a gift and a curse- the curse on his eyes, to see everything as time affects it, and the gift of the renowned Staff of Magius. He's trying to figure out how it works, and has read a diary entry detailing a particular feature of the staff- the ability to light itself. The only clue was that the magical phrase sounded like "Shark".
The rest of this, aside the last panel, is word for word what happened next. This one scene amused me far too much, and I was inspired to draw this.
Enjoy! XD

Dragonlance is my favorite book series. I haven't read this one where raist takes his test yet though. I gotta find those.
I always found it kinda weird that despite being some sort of uberstaff, the staff of magius's only completley confirmed power is a big flashlight (well, that and disguising itself from detect magic spells) I guess it also works as a power source for the mage weilding it, but still.

Well, they have more power; they have some spells in them, like Featherfall, and it's potent against Dragons. There are a lot of other magic spells on there, but only Magius knows them all. Raistlin may or may not, by the end of his life.

I thought Raist learned eatherfall on his own, after all, Palin never used it.
Either way, all the characters used it for was a flashlight. It was never really turned against a dragon or anything, if memory serves. Unless you count the one from the silvanesti dream world thing. And palin definatly wasn't much stronger for it.

Brothers in Arms has Raistlin discussing how the staff contains a spell to help you fall slowly, and he uses it against a dragon there, too. But you're right, most people don't seem to use the staff to its full potential.

xD It'd be interesting if Raistlin's staff "pinged" every time he "shirak"'d it.

Brothers in Arms was one of the two Raistlin Chronicles released. Yeah, it covers Raistlin and Caramon's adventures following the Test, as well as Kitiara's beginnings in Takhisis' army.
But there's one before that, "The Soulforge" that covers Raistlin's(and Caramon's) youth leading up to the Test. Both books are VERY good reads, and add a lot to all of the Companions.
I'm glad my fancomic made you giggle! The scene made ME giggle. XD

Awesome. I loved that scene. One of the few Raistlin is really humanized, and you get a good look at him. xD You did fantastic with his expressions.
I've just been unpacking my dragonlance and trying to figure out how I used to organize them. It's been too long since I read a lot of them. So it's extra funny to me that you submitted this now.

"few"? Interestingly enough, if you read the Soulforge AND a lot of Brothers in Arms, Raistlin is humanized several times. XD Whether it's being wholly embarrassed by Caramon announcing how he doesn't need training to the grizzled veterans, meeting the Girl of his Dreams(who turns out to be the girl of Caramon's bed) and stammering himself to death, or ANY of his lessons with whazzhisname in the training camp. (Like being hit with the staff if he doesn't cast a spell in time)
Reeeeead them! Re-read!

XD I have read all of them. It still feels like so few times in general though. He's always so afraid to let people see him as human. It's been a while since I read them, admittedly. I'll be going back and rereading once I catch up on the new books I have.

Well, he sneaks his human moments past us a lot. :3 He IS deathly afraid of exposing himself, though. (Double Entendre, mayhaps?)
