Since you have Asked for a Critique I will give you one, an Honest one.

I know your Not the Best at backgrounds Magic, This one Could use alot of work, Its a Cute Idea and all with the Pier I just find it could have alot more in it.

there is no Definition from water to Land, Not much shading and I find it a Tiny bit bad that the Water is not Flat in the Back ground.

I feel like you have Taken 1 Brush in Sai and used it, Not Shaken it up at all the Clouds are too Solid and the Water just looks like Blue, The reflection looks Better then the Face on the Character too.

Your Birds as M's feels a bit silly for the amount of Time you have said you put into this. I do on the other Hand like the Idea of the picture and the mold Growing on the Pier and the Water Ripples Coming from the Posts, but That would Probably be the only Highlight on this.
In future I suggest Looking at Refs to see what could Be improved as well as tutorials To see what you can do for new Technique. I don't know where the Pier is Going as its on to much of a angle, if you were going for the Looking down Prospective there would be not Clouds or hills in the Back it would just be water, but If you went with that Approach you could have Done a Reflection of the clouds on the Water, I think it would have been an Idea to also Add some Tiny fish in the Water.

with that Said I will remind you that it is a Cute idea it could just use some Tweaking. : )

Hi Magic! I'm a big fan of your work.

Also, this is the second critique I've ever written! here goes!

First of all, the first impression I got when I saw this piece is "Awwwwww~" It looks very cute, and the colors look peacefull and happy.
The character looks very adorable, and I love the wooden dock ^^

However, I could also see some flaws.
The angle at which the dock is placed looks very awkward. It looks as if it extends into the sky. The flat angle of the horizon contradicts with the slanted angle of the dock.
And plus, it is a closeup scene with the character and the dock, so the faraway hills and sky shouldn't be seen.
To fix this, the dock could be made flat... but that would require you to redo almost the entire scene.
A MUCH BETTER (and easier) SOLUTION WOULD BE:
since the sky and hills shouldn't be seen in this shot, At THAT angle, you'd only be able to see water.
So yeah, change the sky and stuff to ALL water (you could add other things of course to make it more interesting though, like fish or something). You would see the difference ^^ the dock wouldn't be climbing into the sky anymore! yay.
Also, maybe the ripples should have a bit of highlights on them but that's much more minor compared to the error I already addressed.

But overall, cute, calming, innocent pic ^^ and very summer-y.

First of all, this picture is incredibly warming and just generally peaceful, I love it! I also love love love the detail you put into the dock, those wooden creases and that fishing rod is really cute too!

When I first glanced at it, I kind of laughed at the title. It's really cute and fits so well with the picture! I just ... really like the concept of this picture, it's very calming and enjoyable to look at.

Here comes the critique! c:
I think that the dock should be a bit flatter, maybe at a lower angle. Right now it seems as if its "butt" is raised, and looks like a slide-ish thing. If you lower it, it would look great, especially with that awesome texture you got on it!

Next, the anatomy. The hind-leg looks scrunched up and sort of curled into the character's body, so maybe if you stretch the body out and give some more space in the canvas, you can expand the leg and add more realism and curves it it. I think that also applies for the front legs, it seems as though the shoulder curls into the paws of the character, and the paws are generally very round-ish?? You can perhaps let the character's paws dangle over the edge of the dock, and tilt the muzzle/snout a LITTLE bit upwards so it's face doesn't look droopy. The tail looks as if it's growing off the character's leg, so maybe you can add more shadows to differ the leg from the butt.

The clouds could perhaps include some more detail, it looks quite rushed and a little bit messy, as well as the V-birds. Maybe spend a little more time on them and try to get that puffy, misty effect/texture!

I love this picture overall, it's really well-done and you can tell that a lot of time has been put into it. Good job Magic! <3

One of the things I would have liked to see you work on in this piece is the detail. You included just enough detail in most places, while others lacked it severely. The background, for one, seems fairly weak compared to the rest of the piece, and is overshadowed in comparison. It really would have sent this piece over the top if you had worked a bit harder on it as well. The shading at the top of the posts is a bit messed up -- it doesn't blend in well and I can see a blatant jump in the value scale there. Another thing is the slant of the dock. It's a bit unrealistic, going up at that high of an angle. That probably could have used some flatting out.
As for the details I did enjoy... well, there are quite a few. I love the character's reflection in the water, though next time you should keep in mind that it would most likely be rippled somewhat with the fishing bob and the posts in the water near it, and it should have been out a bit farther as well, but it is still nice nonetheless. Another small thing I noticed was the algae/barnacles/whatever you'd like to consider it on the posts in the water. It really helped to add a sort of realistic feel to that part of the piece and I enjoy it.

Overall, I can see the amount of work you've put into this, and I think you did a very decent job. I would love if you would clean it up a bit, fixing up the things pointed out, and resubmit, but it's amazing the way it is already, even if you don't.

Wow! I love this artwork, Magicpawed! You certainly put a lot of effort into this!

I love the style you used on the character. It is simple but very cute and effective. The fishing rod is also very clever.

The background is a little off, though. instead of having the mountains and the sky, it should have been all water, for atonamy reasons. It looks like the dock is floating on one end.

Speaking about the dock, I am in love with the technique you used for the wood! I have to say, I'm very impressed!

Overall, I think that this is a very good piece. Well done, Magicpawed!

Technique: All righty. First of all, you should have made the dock thing more "flat", because it looks like it's raised, and instead of being flat, it looks like it's leading upwards. Also, the dock edge thing(the darker colored part), it looks like it's a small log at the edge of the dock, instead of being an edge, due to the way the character is holding on to it. Otherwise, water is very good, and is that a fishy I see in there? 8D oh wait no it's the char's reflection :I and the water underneath the dock should be much darker, and you should put white reflections on the water. ;u;

Impact: Good ;U; it's very nice, and I can tell the char is concentrating hard on fishing x333

In the first picture

I have kept the perspective of the docks you made. That version is in birdperspective, you see the drawing from "Above". That way you cannot see the horizont when its this close. So ive just extended the water, and added some lilys so it wouldnt be so empty. It works very well like that. I also added some lines to fix up the anatomy slightly so it feels like the character is resting more on the area its laying.

In the second picture

I wanted to keep your horizont background to show you how the docks would have looked like if they it was there. All perspective dissapears into the horizont. so the docks would do that. Now you get the feeling the docks are far away aswell.

Hope it helps ^^ and keep in mind were the sun is coming from and add that to the clouds aswell So you dont end up with two suns.

DAAAW, I really love this 8) His expression is adorable and that water looks amazing, I really like that it's not just a baby blue or any cold color, the fact that it has some green in it really helps the scene seem warm and outdoors-y ^^ I like the clouds too, they're really simple but very pretty!
