This makes me speculate on what they are going to do for the 50th anniversary next year. At the 10 and 20, they got all the doctors into a single storyline.

Well, that's true, unless they feel like the doctors reached his limit and they want to end the series. I mean, in "Let's Kill Hitler", the doctor didn't show any signs of regeneration, River saved him using all of her remaining regenerations.

It's been pretty well established that was a limit set by the Time Lords. It can be broken.

I'm not that well versed with the pre-2005 canon, but wasn't it established in the series that the Valeyard was a regeneration of the Doctor beyond the 12th?

I think they merely said he was a "future" regeneration.
But the Time Lords took away regenerations, gave regenerations, forced them, and everything else. Not to mention there have been two or three (including the Valeyard) pretty firmly established to be alternate forms of the Doctor.
Even if you ignore the hated "300" comment, it seems pretty clear that the regeneration limit (in world) was set and controlled by the Time Lords.
And from a real-world perspective, the show is doing way too well for them to have one or two more after Smith.
If you accept that the Faction Paradox stuff is (sort of) canon, the Time Lords definitely can giveth and taketh, as it were, even to non Gallifreyans, so no fears, I think, on running out of incarnations.

Then again, it's Doctor Who. That show gets more and more Timey Whimey with every season, so they always find a way if the writers really want it to happen. And don't forget: Rule 1 - The Doctor lies.
