Even though I'm Catholic, I agree with this.
The first things Our Founding Fathers said, they were :"Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of press."
I get sad everytime I see people saying what you should believe or not believe. I mean, in Christianity, Jesus Christ taught us love, not hate.

though i am a christian, i do believe this, people shouldn't FORCE their religion on others, you can talk about your beliefs, even with some discretion, but telling people they will go to hell for not believing like you is absolutely terrible!

Am I the one who found it ironic that George Carlin, while saying this quote also mercilessly bashed religion like Richard Dawkins (except less scientific reference) and has nothing good to say about it. It was as if he was "promoting atheism" by shoving it down everyone's throat. Meh, double standards. Don't get me wrong, I think Carlin's pretty funny in some ways, I like his comments on environmentalists for example. But yeah.

I for one have never tolerated having religions shoved down my throats. Especially from fundamentalists. I was befriended by someone and she used my friendship just to shove her beliefs down (or try to anyway) and it really hurt me and ultimately made me feel used. :/

I partially agree with this, the Bible states "spread my Word" a whole lot

In an effort to defend myself:
I don't have anything against religious people. (my mother is very religious)
I just don't appreciate it when people tell me when they here my name (MargaretMary) that I'm going to hell I'm Catholic (Those people are usually are Southern Baptist) Or that I'm condemned to Hell because of the person I'm in love with.
My point is...is that I have nothing against you for being religious. I just appreciate it if my right weren't imposed upon.

As long as the preaching isn't meant to impede on other people's rights, you have the right to preach. People have the right to freedom of belief as well as freedom of speech and if preaching goes so far as to tell other people that what they believe is wrong and that they should change their beliefs, that's going too far.
I think that's what she meant.

Now I don't know who that is, but essentially Unitarian Universalists believe that all religion is a path to the same God/s and/or afterlife. Some of us worship as Christians or Buddhists (I do both), others as Hindu and Islam.
Essentially, we craft our own personal set of beliefs based on what we personally believe to be right and wrong. Like, I don't believe homosexuality is a sin or even bad, as a Buddhist, but I do believe in the Ten Commandments, as a Christian.
