Description
I went crazy taking pictures in the city. I don't even know where this one was taken but it was most likely around the Times Square area. I chose to sumbit it because of it's simplicity. Please let me know how I could've made this photo better. Thanks. Oh and a full-view will be very appreciated.

That's a great shot. The angle is great because it gives you a good feel for the size of the building while still showing all the different structural parts.
Lighting is also really nice. Just a nice splash of colour from the sun.
Makes me want to go to the city and take some building shots.

Thank you so much. I think that is the best comment I have ever gotten. Your opinion of this photo could not be more perfect. You've made my day. It would be great if you really did go to the city to take building shots. I'd love to see them. Do you live in New York?

No, I live up in Canada. I'm not too far from Toronto though so I'll probably plan a photo trip when the weather gets nicer.

If you do, please let me know so I can have a look at the photos you take. I can't wait till the weather gets nicer too. After taking photos outside my hands get so cold I can't feel them for a while. I wonder if there's a good solution to that. I've tried using gloves but it's impossible to press the right buttons and my hands were cold anyway.

I agree with ludo86 on one thing... the composition is quite ok! The colouring is not that bad although you could try to correct it a little on photoshop or something like that. The contrast is ok.
The greatest issue with this shot is its huge amounts of noise that prevents most colour adjustments specially on the reds and the blues. You must have set the camera for a too high ISO number. If you were using a tripod I'd suggest an ISO lower than 100 (50 or even 25) to reduce the shutter speed and thus the random noise present. Nevertheless I find that noise quite strange even for a 1/60s shutter. That camera is supposed to have a quite good sensor Perhaps you're just over supplying it... there should be an adjustment for lightness... decreasing it might help reducing noise. Everything else is up to your own imagination and sense of aestetics

Thanks. Yea I'm happy with the composition of this photo. It's simple unlike most of the shots I've taken in New York City. I don't like the sky but I don't know how to make a great sky in photoshop. I agree with you on the fact that there's too much noise. I think I used ISO 100. I don't quite get what you mean by over supplying. Whenever I adjust the shutter speed and the F number I never know for sure what is best. I wish there were rules to follow to get the perfect shot.

Well... oversupplying is related to the amount of current that goes into the sensor... more current often result into more noise (you may see it a bit like signal amplification). Unfortunatelly each manufacturer shows it in a different fashion (e.g. I just found out on my lowsy camera that HP calls it EV correction) so you will have to figure it out on your camera yourself
The problem with New York's sky is probably similar to Lisbon's sky. You cant get that real great tone of blue because of the polution and the smog. That's why I never include a large amount of sky in shots taken in Lisbon and prefere to go shooting somewhere else or at night. Perhaps in after some heavy rain or snow you'll have the luck of getting it...

I'm not sure if she should... if you look at full view there is much noise. Boosting the reds will increase that noise a lot, don't you think so?

Maybe for poster-sized copies. I must say i never experienced any quality loss when changing things like color balance.

Adobe Photoshop: Image\Adjustments\Color Balance and Hue/Saturation. Just try some different settings.

Whenever I play around with that I feel like the images don't look real after. I'm still a little confused on how to make boost the reflection.

th best way to do it is to go into image> image size> and it will say the dpi in document size, maybe 230 or 300. just change that number to a smaller number. whatever looks good to you.

Thanks. I definitely have to do that for my next deviation. I love your gallery by the way. I noticed you have different frames for every photo lol

Actualy, you don't want to touch the dpi. You go to image > image size, then change the pixel value on the top to something reasonable, like my suggestion on your other work of 900px wide. The dpi is specificaly for printing, not for viewing on a computer. Also make sure that 'Resample Image' is checked.

great shot. it would probably look a lot better if you made it smaller, making the picture look sharper

I agree with you. The full-view is too large. I just don't understand how that would make the picture look sharper.
