Description

The night was almost done. Scythe yawned shamelessly.

“You see, when I came by, I knew. Smash a grin into a dying man’s face? The dirty tears and grit teeth of a fair-haired woman while you have her? Tossing kids corpses? Torching live pigs to spread fire, hilarious! Worse? And fighting, fighting, killing, winning... I’d lived through it all and I enjoyed some of it more than I’d care to admit. What had I become? A ghost passing over a circle of bones that encompassed the world, a cold wind, a hunting beast, always the next death, staring out of blank eyes, and always, always choking on my own blood.”

"It was not you who did that..."

“You think so? I'm not sure. You know what I did? I slapped the Monk for good measure and for handling me, unpainted. He took it with good grace. I got on the horse and drove it on, until it almost collapsed, until I, my very own body, not a memory, felt sore and dirty.”

She looked at her hands.

“I’m not humble. I don’t have to. I leave that to the monk.”

Mago chuckled. “You’re a goddess.”

“I am. Was, for some time, at least. You know what I got for it? The armour of a dead woman, taken from her tomb, the flower I gave you, my pectoral that I had lost, and a bag of dates. So sweet.”

Scythe had gone through all their supplies by now and looked a bit wistful. “It wasn’t a bad deal, I guess. And I did all that was expected. I wonder if someone was proud of me. I was never good at counting, and I lost track, but my time is nearly up.”

Suddenly she laughed. “Don’t get all moody. Imagine me back then, a crazed Treefolk putting on probably the most exalted piece of clothing ever, admiring my reflection in the water, giggling.”

If this plastic has been stored for tens of millions of years, then why is it so rare? From what you wrote, I can conclude that it was used for domestic purposes and it should have survived to this day.

Not quite. It was not stored for domestic purposes. It was pretty rare stuff and the Hyperboreans only used it this way because it was a matter of survival. And once take out of the storage it was not indestructible. You can burn it, easily, for example. As the Gasturian priests did when they tried to purge any reference to the matter.

Afterthought - some does survive... but you got to get it, first

Also wirklich...

YyyyeaNo. Nope. I can't see this.

Leather? Yes.

Fur? Yes.

Armor? Yes.

See through fabrics over mail.? Nnnnnrghm.

But I like the actual effect and how random the plants in the foreground appear. And the waters surface, looks pretty real.

Those in the background? Neeeh. But they're nice and blurry. Btw, what is that blue-grey fog on the right side?

The armour is actually constructed from ceramics and plastics. Only the fur coat was an add-on. The armour plates are semi-transparent material, too. Pretty advanced stuff, beyond current technology.

It was more of a ceremonial outfit during the theocracy, but top quality. During the events around the treason, the surviving parts of the population was herded up into provisory camps until further ...disposal... they did not have much time and choice to grab ressources and flee. It's a bit worn down from use and gathering dust in less than vacuum tombs, but otherwise.

The fabric turned out more transparent than was intended, though. It looked nice enough starting the render, but with enough iterations and dehaze it's a bit to much. Oh well...

Yeah, can see that happen. Every armor becomes ceremonial if only enough time passes.

At least if you can get the bloodstains out.

Only untested steel is free of blemish.

Splendid outfit for this one
I also noticed the very efficient use of subsurface scattering on her face

Very good fresh morning atmosphere and colors (a lot less easy with DAZ than with VUE)

Thanks, yeah I wanted some soft light here, for a change. SSS is really a weird thing... even when subtle, it's changing things a lot. Apart from the fact that the whole scene sits in a SSS volume

Depending on the light conditions, SSS may add a lot of realism, specifically for human skin

Thanks so much, it's a pretty 'soft' scene, but then she's still barely twenty... however things are... trying to cope with loads of fuck-ups...
