Percy was still a bit of a green rider, sure, but he had solid training in his two years in the saddle. His fingers already bore calluses and he had started picking up items in the same grip he used to hold the reins.
He had been riding Lotte’s old horse, Jackal, the last few months, learning a little bit of jumping and after realizing his love for it he gave his wallet a deep look and decided it was time to get his own steed. He wanted to join the girls at little shows, but Jackal was semi retired and Percy did not want to put the horse under any pressure. Instead he wanted to look for a younger horse he could learn with, under the close guidance of the team at the stables.
The girls; his girlfriend Lotte and his sister, Olive, were in full support. They had seen him grow as a horseman over the last few years and couldn’t wait until he had enough confidence on his own horse to join them in the show jumping circuit.

Now the question just was who would become the right horse. The team wasn’t new to trying horses, having gone through the process many times before, but they still took it seriously. Percy needed a sensible, clever horse with heart. He was a gentle rider with a relaxed seat, meaning that he did not gel at all with a angry firecracker like Artemis. Bucking and rearing frightened him, so did nipping in the stall, and the girls were set on getting him a gentle partner for the yard.

Their own yard was not the largest, it was on the outskirts of a forest, housing only ten horses in the cozy barn. Olive lived in the second floor of it, where she could keep a close eye on the animals. Percy and Lotte lived not five minutes away by foot. Their little team was new to the competition circuit, but they had a nice big truck and a great sponsor sending them to competitions all around.

When Lotte saw an advertisement for Zatcher her mind was already made up. This horse looked perfect, gentle, cautious if a little nervous but also extremely loving. She grinned as she watched a few clips of the horse doing tricks, knowing Percy would adore that. He loved playing around with the horses, often spending entire evenings in Jackal’s stall at night.

Percy protested when the girls insisted to try another horse that week. He had been frightened a bit by a particularly aggressive mare a few days prior, and was feeling apprehensive as to what he would be sat on next.

They drove the long route to Zdarloch Sejrbank, Percy completely unaware of what kind of horse he would be meeting. It was only when he saw Zatcher that his interest peaked.

The stallion was, well…. beautiful. Percy had never seen a horse with such lovely spots before. He sat up in the backseat of the car, looking out at the elegant beast, now far more excited.

The yard itself was a dream, small but modern and elegant. The little team got out the car and looked around before being greeted.

It wasn’t long until they were being showed the young horse. Percy took to him right away, gently stroking the stallion’s neck while cooing to him in a low voice. He was entranced, and soon would be even more.

They watched Zatcher be ridden, the young horse showing off his bold, elegant stride. Percy’s eyes were as wide as saucers and he was grinning ear to ear.
when it was his own turn he rubbed the horse’s withers, sitting for a moment at the mounting block as he got used to the red shoulders under him. He patted Zatcher gently before following the team towards the outdoor arena. This horse was taller than Jackal, but not by much, so it felt completely comfortable.

Percy just hoped this would go well, riding his absolute best as he tried out this dream of a horse.
