The weather had turned from wet and miserable to rather blue and breezy, and that gave Gabe all the energy he needed to zoom through his tasks for the day, finishing a hour earlier than ususal. He was humming merrily as he approached their guest, Killian , and held up two tiny halters.
There was a tulip farm just a ten minute walk from James's estate, and the farmer had just messaged that the flowers were in full bloom. It was a irresistable opportunity to show off some of the Netherlands's most beautiful attributes.
The dirt road was still a tad muddy from the rains last week, but it was solid enough not to splash. Ken was thrilled with their impromptu outing, walking along like a good boy and taking heavy sniffs of the air. His little tail flicked in the light breeze, but he did not cause a fuss.
"We used to own these fields" Gabe mused, looking around as they got closer to the tulip farm, the colours starting to splash amongst the green, "but they got too muddy for horses most of the year, so James sold them off to a friend who wanted to get into farming"
He waved over to the farmer, who was walking in the far distance.
"Tulips also don't like being too muddy, but the family that bought the fields put in a full drainage system- you can see the water run off there. It makes the soil quite crumbly now," he pointed at some of the drains, Ken also seeming to look at where he was pointing, "nobody understands water better than the dutch. That's what happens with so much of the country below sea level."
Gabe gave a soft chuckle, then smiled over to Killian, "I hope you enjoy your visit. When it gets warmer, we can take the foals for a swim."
