Description
EDIT! 10/5 : Whoa! Thankyou for the DD! I have actually improved the design since these, moving forward with an infact LARGER set of moth wings [link] that actually moves via animatronics done-up by a freind [link]***Thankyou!***
--------------------------------------------------
Made potentially for a LARP but I dont know if Im going to use them now. But it was a fun project. Many design aspects were ques taken from the wonderful work of Swandog [link] <--- go check out her stuff, tres chic : )
Innitially intended to move but theres fabric problems that will prevent a smooth pull-string system so I'll probably just leave them hanging stationary and call it a day, or do a delayed arm-pull system if I really need any movement and then just fuss with them to get them laying flat again. I have this idea, see, that the character has nerve damage in the wings from trying to cut the damn things off so they dont move much or well anymore (The game they'd be fore is Changeling: The Lost the concept is a Luna Moth Beast Kith.)
Very thin foam sandwiched between Cotton, quilted and airbrushed.

Fabulous! I've decided to make my own moth wings so that's why I was looking up fairy wings. Then I found this.
I was thinking of using foam but hadn't seen that method anywhere until now. So I may try that if the most popular method on the internet doesn't work out which is to stretch pantyhose over a wire frame. I was thinking of trying to create death's head hawk moth wings and if that works out I wanted to make luna moth wings.
Anyway, this is a great inspiration.

I have a question; if that's allright. What kind of framework did you have to make to support the wings? My husband is making me a pair of moth wings and was curious if you could lend some helpful tips? Thank you.

try adding a bit of elevation at the joint of the wing (I'm assuming the pull-string system operates by running a string from some point along the top of the wings and through a loop/joint to the main body of the suit). Like this [link] (just skip to around 11 minutes, I think). I'm not sure, but that might be what's causing you trouble... In any case, it's a beautiful design/costume! I hope you find a way to make it work And congrats on the DD.

I've always wondered, with large projects like this- what happens to them, when/if the creator doesn't use them? How do you store wings like that?
