Description
EDIT! 10/5 : Whoa! Thankyou for the DD! I have actually improved the design since these, moving forward with an infact LARGER set of moth wings [link] that actually moves via animatronics done-up by a freind [link]***Thankyou!***
--------------------------------------------------
Made potentially for a LARP but I dont know if Im going to use them now. But it was a fun project. Many design aspects were ques taken from the wonderful work of Swandog [link] <--- go check out her stuff, tres chic : )
Innitially intended to move but theres fabric problems that will prevent a smooth pull-string system so I'll probably just leave them hanging stationary and call it a day, or do a delayed arm-pull system if I really need any movement and then just fuss with them to get them laying flat again. I have this idea, see, that the character has nerve damage in the wings from trying to cut the damn things off so they dont move much or well anymore (The game they'd be fore is Changeling: The Lost the concept is a Luna Moth Beast Kith.)
Very thin foam sandwiched between Cotton, quilted and airbrushed.

Stay away from my character then, she will convince you to try to cut them off again or die trying..... 👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Nice work It immediately reminded me of ~swandog 's costume ideas. You pulled it off well, though I agree with a previous commenter that the texture looks a bit off.

ive gotta say, ive been checking out your work which is amazing, you must have paid a fortune to go to a costume design college to learn it all and it has surely paid off.
BUT ~ i dont like the foam/cotton look. [i love the paint, the shape, frayed edges and everything else] i almost feel as if you needed to paint these with layers of glue and throw flour on them..[and some how seal it so it doesnt come off] to get that dusty, moth wing texture. thats it. for me, personally, the only let down is that it has the wrong textural appearance.
apart from that, its awesome and i love it!

Thin foam between cotton... Brilliant!
Seriously, that is a good idea, it's simple and effective. I love that sort of combination in works.

OMG, I absolutely LOVE how these turned out, and it gives me hope that mine will come out decent too! Your harness and joints are a bit different than mine, but it looks quite doable! Would love to know more of the details on that (in case my design doesn't work out well).

Thanks! Im glad you approve lole : ) Basically rather than haveing everything on one pivot point, I justsplit them into two pivot paints (one for each pair of wing pieces) unfortunatly the fabric I used turned out a bit rough from the paint so the fold/unfold movement is not so hot Buuuuut fortunatly I dont need them to move since the character dosnt much use them anyway so alls well that ends well in that respect.

These look fantastic. The edging detail really helps, especially on the tails. It also looks like you managed quite a good textural effect overall.
Having experimented with a more bat like wing harness set up myself (larping in mind again) I certainly understand the issues with pull strings and movement. What did you use for the leading edge structure, if I may ask?

Just a thin plastic cut from the list of a plastic storage tub. Its good stuff.
