Sup, everyone! I didn’t draw today, this piece here is for SweetlyViolent - Draw Our OC’s contest!

The main theme is just drawing your OC’s interacting with hers, so I spent a lot of time reading bios and all, and of course, from my own deep love for the sea, I really enjoyed her character Ariel’s own take on it, a dark one.

At first I wanted to draw Ariel with Kai, my one OC that actually shipwrecked and almost died. But as one of the rules is proving the OC is developed and all, and everything I have on Kai is tradional since he is one of the first OC’s, I couldn’t really use him.

Luckily enough, altho Sage didn’t shipwreck, he has a weird relationship with the sea. He watched, after all, as a friend went into yet never again to return (on purpose), leaving her life at bay.
To this day, he’s pretty afraid of gazing into the sea and feeling the same kind of pull she might have felt. He stays in the city, looking for his mother and trying to keep it together, and at night so man dreams have the sound of waves.

Here’s his bio on this topic:
Sage as his mom have a very strong relationship. They rely on each other a lot, thrive together and grow better together. I based the whole character of his mom (Lucille) into this song ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIUKGK… ) for the sole reason that it sounds so compeling (plus I really freaking love trap).
His mom disappeared. She is not dead (I know that cuz I'm writting lol) but she is missing. At first, he looked for her like anyone would, police, flyers, asking around people he knows, asking at her workplace and places she frequents, but he couldn't find her.
The whole megacity started to feel too small. Like it was closing around him, and no exit had his mother in it. In an outburst of mindless self preservation, Sage sold a lot of the stuff he had - clothes, this kind of things - and bought a stolen car and just left Yeskodovo.
This turned into somewhat a catartic roadtrip. In the way he met a girl, Maya, that was running too, altho she never gave any reasons. Enters the second song that inspired Sage's whole thing ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrsAxH… ) altho this is more about general mood. Anyway, they traveled until the litoral, the whole way showered by numbing cigarettes (legal ones, called "jetlags") and there, Maya drowed herself.
As I said, the whole thing was kinf of catartic and he went back to Yeskodovo to look for his mom. Altho nowadays he is not sure if Maya was an illusion or not, he takes the will of not being drown into what's around him to do whatever it takes to get his mom and life back.

Here’s Ariel’s:
Ariel Anderson should've been happy through her life, she was the only daughter of a wealthy merchants and a naturally gifted singer. However, ever since she was seven years old, Ariel was always somewhat sad and had a strange fascination with the ocean and storms. On her twentieth birthday, Ariel's parents decided to take her on a cruise to try and cheer their daughter up. The family went on a high class and expensive cruise to Bramuda. Unfortunately the ship was cought in a horrible storm and the hull was broken. It started rapidly gaining water, and could not be saved. When the ship was evacuated, Ariel for some reason or another locked herself in the lower-class section of ship. However, she had locked herself down there with several other passangers who, despite her attempts to convince them otherwise, did not want to drown. Still, she was relatively happy with herself, and started to sing when a frantic passenger attacked her, stabbing her in her right eye. They all managed to get past her though, but she remained where she was, still singing. Eventually, she drowned, and became a ghost. Feeling an unnatural urge to show people how beautiful a death by drowning could be, Ariel became a siren, enticing people with her voice and leading them to a watery grave.

This was way to fitting not to be drawn! Ariel, then, is luring Sage to the ocean’s release, and altho pleased with the idea of numbness and calm, he stays where he is, trying to convince himself the dream of serenity is good enough.

I wanted to convey a feeling of old portrait, and also to make Ariel between ghostly and lovable.
While I like the results a lot, this is the kind of piece where I wish I could tackle scenery better.
