Yes i'd say photography knows no boundaries. But it also makes one curious on how each picture is made, and under what circumstances. Only through that can we see the world through the eyes of others.

I concur. It's important to understand the context sometimes. We can as he suggested below define our own beliefs about the image, but I do not think they would be as meaningful or accurate as the artist's. Afterall, this piece was put up to share with us, and like all art forms, it is attempting to communicate something... if I ask the artist.. what is it that you are trying to communicate here, and the reply is simply "whatever you want", I find that grossly unsatisfying...

Well i guess it's a grey area. It is up to us to consume and define what the image means to us, however why the image was made in the first place must not be forgotten. To take a line from James Nachtwey, "Photography reminds us that certain history and events must not be repeated".
