Description HDR Cheat, normally you would take 3+ images at 3 different exposures then blend to get a HDR image, this is an old picture just a single image, imported into silkypix then saved 6 images at -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 Exposure levels, then imported all into Photomatix pro to blend into 1 image and tweeked the tones to get this

just an experiment to see what I could get from 1 image and I love it.

Drawbacks:-

brightening a jpg gives you green blotchy grain in shadows which show in the final blend at 100% , it's still better to take 3+ images from the start but also a good way of improving a so so single image taken in the past

original single image

it's came out great! i've recently gotten into hdr techniques, but i have the shakiest hands in the world so if i'm without my tripod, i'm better off not trying! the alternative is filling up a memory card with worthless images...

Why not trying to rest the camera on a wall/floor/car roof or anything stable, setting your cameras exposure bracketing ( AEB ) to +/- say 1 or 2 EV then setting your shooting mode to continuous...

rest your camera on something stable then hold the shutter down for 3 images...

what you will get is the first image correctly exposed, the 2nd will be under exposed for highlight detail and the 3rd over exposed for shadow detail

after that just blend with photoshops merge to HDR, photomatix create HDR image or any other HDR or DRI software/plugins

I used to take my tripod everywhere but now only use it for Panoramas, anything else I rest the camera on something stable if the shutter speed needs to be under 1/250 of a second ( I also have very shakey hands myself )

yeah - now, i've been playing around with the bracketing for a while now... yes, i've been resting it on all available stable surfaces!! i must look like a severe idiot when i'm out and about with my lumix in tow!

and yes - i have to use fairly quick shutter speeds most of the time, which is why most of my deviations are taken in high light areas
