Awfully nice of Ganondorf to offer him a way out of the desert. My guess is that Link's second attempt would have gone very much like his first otherwise.

I always remembered in Ocarina of Time Nabooru said something to the effect of it being against the Gerudo honor code to steal from women and children, so I figured that if Ganondorf here at least starts out as someone who is a little more willing to adhere to the honor code, that he would be somewhat lenient towards women and children, and by consequence at least a little less ready to let them die needlessly.
