My concentration was to draw a series of illustrations about emotions revolving around the creator of a time machine. I chose this topic, simply because it interests me (and I've always liked steampunk drawings).

I got a final mark of 4, so it might be better to ask someone else with a higher mark but I'll just write a bunch of things for you to keep in mind, anyway:
Make sure to choose a topic that interests you, but not a topic that is too broad. Say you are interested in fairy tales, so you choose a concentration topic related to it. What you shouldn't do is to draw 12 pieces of 12 different fairy tales (my friend was planning to do this and was stopped by our instructor). Keep your topic specific, but don't make your topic be about an object either. For example, "little red riding hood" shouldn't be your central theme. Something like, "illustrating emotional struggle through little red riding hood" is a better topic. Choose a topic that helps with demonstrating your skills.

And make sure to stay away from cliches (e.g. Eyes, skulls, mythical creatures). Remember to add your own spice to your theme as well .

If you can't think up of interesting ideas, try combining 2 contradicting ideas together (it might help to spark your imagination) (e.g. sad+comedian, urban city+dinosaurs, human-loving+killer).

Woah! Thank you so much! Our school (a tiny high school in Iowa), is trying out the class for the first time this year...needless to say all of us in the class (all 6 of us, lol), are a little lost, haha. This helps!
