This can't happen. Can it?

No it didn't, but she came close to it, as "The Rise of Skywalker" revealed that Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter.Β  No word on who Mom and Dad were, except that one of them was obviously the Emperor's son or daughter.Β  I'm guessing they'll leave that at some future date.

Very faithful rendition. I usually ignore pictures that only reproduce movie screencaps, but since this is Star Wars, I'll make an exception. The flickering of the lightsaber blades is spot-on and the contrast between the cold background and the bright red blades really contributes to the whole eerie atmosphere. My one gripe is that Rey's face feels a little off, really.

Theory time: Now that Rey's delusions about her parents' identity and fate have been cleared, another, much deeper demon (that we already caught a glimpse of in TLJ) begins to surface in her mind. As her skill in the Force grows, a desire for ever greater power seeps itself into her, calling for justice for the harsh life she's led up until TFA. Rey, while exploring the remains of the Death Star, then confronts a manifestation of that desire that was given shape by the raw power of the Dark Side that lurks there. I imagine Dark!Rey would taunt her with words along the lines of "Admit it. This is something you've always desired, whenever you weren't busy crying yourself to sleep begging for Mommy and Daddy to come back. The galaxy gave you hell. It's only natural that you return the favor."

Thank you so much for such a long and awesome comment! I really appreciate it a lot. I see your point about her face being off, she's not exactly perfect but, well, hahah.

About your theory, I think Rey would make one hell of a dark sider, I've always thought that ever since her story was introduced in TFA, she had a lot of darkness insideΒ  and with good reason to feel rage, despair and to descend into nihilism because of her shitty past. What her parents did to her was horrible and all those years lying to herself and living in perpetual childhood show how much mental damage she endured. The feelings of loneliness and not being wanted can make anyone go mad. A clever darksider would make sure to exploit this.

I think in TLJ she admitted to herself what happened to her, the truth that se has been denying all along, but she never got to deal with the pain and damage that this caused, the consequences. She never got the opportunity to grief. I think this dark phase is what she needs to mourn, accept those dark feelings she has inside and finally, move on into adulthood, as this is a coming of age story (probably as something in between dark and light).Β

Sorry about lenghty response and shitty EnglishΒ

Ah, an illusion created by Sidious would work too. It's a good interpretation, although I think her denial of her past and the severe self-depreciation she developed from being abandoned are what was blocking that darker part of herself. She kept telling herself that she didn't deserve to feel those desires for a better life and for more power, like "They abandoned me for a reason, right?" But now that that block is lifted and she grows more and more powerful in the Force, nothing can stop that demon from rearing its ugly head anymore.

Oh, your English is quite satisfactory, don't worry (I'm not a native speaker myself, lol).

Yes, a vision created by Sidious would work too (although I would love it more if it was real, I believe it would be more fun) and you are right, her trauma is complex and can manifest itself in different ways. I'm just sure that in the end, no matter if a vision or real, she has to accept her trauma and the consequences, her inner darkness before she comes of age. That is the integrating the Shadow part that Jung is all about, isn't it?Β

I believe this actually in relation to Rey's final Trial to see if can defeat the darkness with-in herself before she has to face Kylo.

maiderbee In reply to DragoRoku [2019-08-31 19:27:40 +0000 UTC]

I agree she has to, not defeat, but accept the darkness inside so she can grow into balance and adulthood, since this is a coming of age story and all of this is metaphorical. But I don't think Kylo is her Big Bad.Β

That is perhaps Sidious, though it is guaranteed that he will be the one she will have the epic lightsaber duel with.

Great pic of yours, but the butterfly laserknife (or however you want to call it) is just a retarded weapon design (blame Jar Jar Abrams).

Oh, I don't know if it's practical (and who cares, this is fantasy) but I think it looks pretty cool.

Nope, that kind of design already existed in The Clone Wars. starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Pong_…

Also, "Jar Jar Abrams"? What are you, five?

And I'm sure by "stupid" and "retarded", you mean "anything that conflicts with my narrow-minded and selfish definition of how a lightsaber should be".

Wow. A 23-minute video to complain about a one-second clip that will most likely end up being just a Dark Side vision anyway. Of all the stupid shit I've seen ST haters complain about, this one definitely takes the cake.

Just wow, and the red glow <3 And I love the ''messier'' light of the saber rather than the typical straight line. Looks so untamed, wild, powerful *O*

Hey Dado! Thank you so much, so happy you like it!
I thought, just by looking at the trailer that her lightsaber was unsteady, just like Kylo's. I don't know if it was just my imagination or if it's indeed the case, anyway, I had a lot of fun drawing her saberstaff.
