Nice color! I've seen the original B&W image, but have no idea what book or game supplement it came from. Do you?

This is definitely Quixos Vs Eisenhorn, This was early in Eisenhorn's career and thats definitely Quixos' daemon sword Vs Barbarisater the blade that belonged to the slain Arianhrod Esw Sweydyr and fixed the pentagrammic and ant-deamon sigils. and although they did battle on a mountain as I recall they went underground thats how the heretics survived the orbital bombardment and the synthetic cadian obelisk was not seen from orbit so it must have been underground as well. But looking at it more closely theres just as many irregularities as there are coincidences, and it looks like Quixos has the staff eisenhorn made towards the end of the second or third book(cant remember). I wonder if this Image and the fluff came first and then Dan Abnett took inspiration from the image and adapted it to his book, I dont know the chronology or the relationship between GW canon and 40k novel canon.

Praise be to our mighty Emperor! May his reign last to the end of time!
Anyways, this work is really excellent. Also, if you type the name of this artwork into StarWars: Galactic BattleGrounds The Clones Wars Expansion, it spawns an Imperial Star Destroyer.
Why yes, I am am random and full of useless knowledge.

It's based on Eisenhorn fighting Quixos.

Looks like the Rouge Trader is more pure than the Inquisitor, who's sword looks noticeably organic...

Inquisitors are allowed to use such items if they wish.

Yeah, but it's the more...radical ones who actually do...

They're still allowed to though!
My Inquisitor is entirely faithful to the Immortal God-Emperor, yet he uses Daemon-serum which forces those subjected to it to spill their guts on what they know. And then spill their guts... literally.

Fair enough. Gotta admit, my Space Marine Chapter knows so much especially about the nature of Chaos, if many Inquisitors knew about it they'd declare them Heretics, hunt them down & try to wipe them out.
Of course, they'd have to discover my Chapter exists in the first place...
Plus Ynyr Kage, my own Inquisitor, got into the Inquisition through a...back door...
So I guess I'm not so "Puritan" myself. Never claimed to be though...

sounds like my idea of a chapter on the edge of becoming chaos marines...my own inqusitior is a balance between puritain and radical....though he does know chaos is best used against chaos...and has been known to travel with a deamon thats trapped in the form similar to ancient terras extinct igauna speices...only much larger and has pointyier teeth...and is known as the second oldest and most powerful lord of change...(they love to hate each other.....and the reason the deamon doesnt take him over is becuase hes to damn amusing to it...plus as long as he screws other deamons/chaos gods plans and tricks then hes all for it...also it has its own plans....for my inquisitor that it wont reveal untill the end...heh...)
still useing deamon weapons doesnt suit me well....now if he used experimaental weapons by using tech from the acursed tau mixed with some fragments of an eldar avatar of khaines sword and parts of a necron lord with the essence of the nightbriner still instilled in it...now thats acceptable... a true deamon slaying weapon....(sighs)...hmmmmmm....gives me ideas...

Don't know if that is Eisenhorn and Quixos but I always thought that was a Radical fighting a Puritan.
Still the colouring is great.

I agree but it does have a big Eisenhorn influence....
-the psykers hanging from the ceiling
-the staff on the back of the inquisitor (supposed Quixos)...
-the book hanging from the inquisitors side...
-the sword is similar to the archaic sword Eisenhorn weilds
-im guessing the sword on the 'rogue trader's' back is the Carthean sword
as you said its too innaccurate to be eisenhorn vs quixos...but its definitly got similarities there.
by the way, great colouring dude haha, great picture at the end of the day tae

Yikes! You have some posting lag. Are you absolutely sure that's who their supposed to be?
Given that Quixos had been horribly mutated by the warp, his official picture is very different than the one here. Plus, Eisenhorn doesn't look anything like Eisenhorn, he's missing his Inquisitorial rosette and his force staff is not present, he doesn't even have a purity seal.
Furthermore, their final battle took place over a mountain, not in an ornate building and Adrian Smith, the guy who was commissioned by GW to do this picture, labeled it as Inquisitor vs Rogue Trader, leading me to believe it was probably an illustration in the Dark Heresy rulebook.

Thanks for the information. For the third question, I think it's a bad idea using Chaos at your whim. The desire is good, but outcome is evil.
Great job again. Well done.

Nice work on the coloring, as usual. Truly the Emperor sends you divine visions on how to glorify his Imperium. Hope you like my fancy talk. But I got three questions
1. What's a Rogue Trader? I've never heard of 'em.
2. Is that supposed to be some sort of Warhammer-style lightsaber the dude's wielding?
3. Why does the large sword of the Imperial warrior have a demonic visage (horns and stretched flesh on the hilt). Is he showing signs of Chaotic taint?

MajesticChicken In reply to terraluna5 [2010-06-11 02:29:12 +0000 UTC]
1. Rogue Traders are basically space explorers chartered by the Imperium, they bring good manners and plumbing to planets not yet under Imperial control. They run the gamut from being legalized space pirates to just explorers, some are as powerful as Inquisitors.
2. I took the weapon to be some sort of power sword, though usually power weapons still have a metal blade, so either the energy is just really bright or the Trader is using some sort of alien technology, which they do all the time.
3. The Inquisitor is probably a Radical, meaning he uses Chaos against itself. They can be highly susceptible to corruption, and may eventually fall to Chaos.
