Description

Last Friday, my mom, brother, and I all went on a road trip together to visit cousins of ours who live around 8 hours away from us. We were in the middle of a highway at night time when all of a sudden, the car right in front of us stopped in its tracks, and we accidentally crashed into it as a result, leaving the front of our car caved in and the bumper dragging across the ground anytime it moved. And we were surrounded by cars, so we couldn’t turn anywhere that would’ve stopped this from happening. We were all scared for our lives, and for a while, we got stranded in basically the middle of nowhere until a towing truck came along and also one of our cousins helped us out by driving us to her house safely. Thankfully, none of us or anyone in that other car got hurt (that car didn’t even get damaged somehow), my dad and his now-wife were kind enough to drive all the way over there so they could take us all the way back home, and the now-wife is also letting mom borrow one of her cars for the time being, but man does that still leave a mental scar on us all as car crashes can leave us injured or, even worse, killed!

That brings us to this drawing I worked on yesterday, which sees Gumball in his cheerleading outfit/wig/shades combo from two Gumball/Night in the Woods/Becca’s Bunch crossover drawings (one of which also has Sonic) that I made last year (minus the white shoes) scared for his life as Nicole and Sonic both try to calm him down from the crash that they all just experienced. Gumball in particular is so scared that he drops the very first f-bomb I’ve ever included in a drawing based on Sonic and Gumball (both separately and together). I mean, can you blame him at all? Look at what just happened! I didn’t attach a mature content label because it’s a PG-13 kind of drawing, which would allow a very limited number of uses for ‘fuck’ (up to two as far as I’m aware, having watched Ridley Scott’s The Martian) in this kind of context. And yeah, with how traumatizing this was for all of us, The 25 Days of Deviant Art 2021 will be the last time I put out more than one drawing in one single week for another while, going back to half of this year’s one-per-week release schedule starting on New Year’s Day as I continue to reel back from this real-life nightmare.

Also of note: The background is my first time illustrating smoke (using Course Watercolor in Sketchbook and copying its layer twice to do so), and while this is the first drawing I started work on after the crash, it’s the third one to get finished afterwards as I completed the shading and coloring work for my drawings of Bahn from Fighting Vipers and Vyse from Skies of Arcadia (both for Multiversal Collide, my Cartoon Network and Sega mega crossover) at the cousins’ house after I made the line work way back here at home. This is also the second time I drew Sonic, Gumball, and Nicole together after a traumatic experience, having previously drawn a yet-to-be-released Sonic and Gumball Clothing Switch-a-Roo sequel with all three of them as I wanted to make a comedic drawing after getting a deep bite on my right wrist from a very mean cat in a hallway he wasn’t supposed to be in (which led to me getting hospitalized and wearing a brace on it for a while) on top of a damaged tooth that I had to get pulled out at that exact same time in late July/early August of this very year. As if I needed any more layers of trauma in my already very hard life… *sighs heavily*
