*Unexpected second new drawing for today has approached!* *Super Smash Bros. menu selection sound plays*Oh would you look at that, I’ve got another childhood favorite of mine to celebrate the 20th anniversary of! Because if there’s one 20th anniversary I’m so not leaving out this year, it’s Stuart Little, voiced in these movies (based on a book by Charlotte’s Web author E. B. White) by Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future, Light of Day, Family Ties, The Hard Way, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Homeward Bound)!
How can I ever forget the simple fun of the first film where he moves in with the Little family (consisting of George Little [played by Jonathan Lipnicki {Jerry Maguire, Dr. Dolittle}] and his parents Eleanor and Frederick [played respectively by Geena Davis {Tootsie, Fletch, Transylvania 6-5000, The Fly (1986), Beetlejuice, Thelma & Louise, A League of Their Own} and Hugh Laurie {House, Tomorrowland, LittleBigPlanet 3, Monsters Vs. Aliens, Arthur Christmas}]), and gains their affection, only to end up ticking off their pet cat Snowbell, voiced by Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage, Mouse Hunt, Teacher’s Pet, Addams Family Values, The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story)? Or the even better second one where Stuart gains a new friend in the form of a canary named Margalo, voiced by Melanie Griffith (Nobody’s Fool, Night Moves, Body Double), upon saving her from the evil Falcon, voiced by James Woods (Disney’s Hercules, The Hard Way, Night Moves, Videodrome, Casino, Surf’s Up)? Yeah, as someone who grew up on these movies and remembers them super fondly, there was just no way I was gonna leave Stuart out of my art gallery!
And as you can see, I decided to go with yet another direction for myself, a similar one to my drawing of Felix the Cat and my last drawings for Blue’s Clues and Puffin Rock, where it’s mostly lineless but with lines added to it to separate certain parts of the character from each other, in this case specifically showing the outlines of Stuart’s arms and mouth, the lines on his pants, and his whiskers. And if you ask me, it may just be my best attempt yet at translating a 3D character like Stuart into 2D! The decision to go mostly lineless with this one allowed me to recapture almost the entire look and feel of the character in both of those movies despite being in the flat dimension! Go back even just last year and show this to me and tell me that I drew this, and my mind would’ve imploded in on itself!
Stuart Little is owned by Sony Pictures.
