Description
112 million years ago in what is now Oklahoma’s Two Antlers Formation, a Deinonychus antirrhopus stands atop a juvenile Tenontosaurus that has been pinned to the ground by its huge talons. The raptor will then proceed to eat the ornithopod alive. The dromaeosaurs’ iconic sickle-claws evolved from the climbing tools of smaller, basal forms of the mid-Jurassic into formidable tools for subduing or cutting off the jugular veins of big game in the larger, more poweful forms that emerged in the Cretaceous.Related content
