Smilodon fatalis was the North American cousin of Smilodon populator. It was slightly smaller at just 2.3 meters long and 260 kg, but nevertheless was a powerfully-built too predator capable of tackling anything ranging from bison and camels to small ground sloths and horses. But it shared its environment with a host of other super-carnivores such as the dire wolves (canis dirus), short-faced-bears (arctodus simus) giant lions (Panthera atrox) and Augustan jaguars (panthera onca augusta)
