I think the title is very fitting because I think what lies underneath that smile is nothing more than pure sorrow and torment. I believe that Chara pulled off that little scene after the murder of Flowey so that you would be given the illusion that they were on your side the whole way through (BECAUSE WHY IN THE BLOODY HELL WOULD CHARA SUPPORT SOMEONE WHO ORCHESTRATED THE DEATHS OF THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO THEY CARED ABOUT, THROUGH A CHILD MIGHT I ADD). This facade was maintained so that when the time was right, they would lash out and kill you off, taking revenge for the massacre that you've committed (I mean, you get attackedΒ whether or not you click on erase).Β
Furthermore, I think that Chara barters for your soul so that when they restore/reset the world, it would be a reminder to them of the sins you've committed to get to that point.
By the way, if I'm going to be labelled as a member of the "Chara Protection Squad" or "Chara Defence Club" for this then so be it.

Woah- that's actually pretty much how I see Chara tbh.
And don't worry, it's not like being labelled as a member of Chara Protection Squad/Defence Club is bad. It sure as heck is better than trying to force people to think they're ONLY a demon who just wants to kill all of humanity&monsters and gain LV.
I mean, they sure as heck wanted to kill humans, but it's obvious they still put the freedom of their family above. o3o

Yeah, I always saw Chara getting Asriel to join them done out of a misguided sense of love and justice rather than pure malice.Β
But I'd rather not try to force it down everybody's throats. Nobody likes anyone who is so uptight about a personal viewpoint, even IF they might be right.
