Description Grouse grouse grouse.

Flute, Hamel, Raiel and Trom from The Violinist of Hameln. I really do like drawing these guys.

Oh, and Oboe.

I LOVE THIS!!! I've read the manga and seen the movie and I love VoH!(I wish there was more of Pick and Chestra doujinshi though) but your art it even more awesome!

Oh, I really like this!

I loved the manga, but the anime lacked the weird scenes and strange humour. But it was still nice to watch.

Oh geez, it's been so long since I last had some fun with VoH. I think it's time for a reread.

Hamel's face here makes me happy.

Oh wow, I'm not normally a huge fan of Trom, but I love the expression on his face there. Geez, and now you're getting me in the mood and all of my manga is at the bottom of a huge box.

I love this sketch! I do hope you're going to color it. ^_^

Also, I found a place to read the manga and I read like the first three chapters, but found myself really wanting the anime instead. Do you recommend I persevere and try to get deeper into it?

Yes, please stick to the manga - the plot picks up in the 6th chapter, and it's really worth it.

Also, the anime is kind of a disaster, with characters completely devoid of personalities and animation completely devoid of actual movement. The manga manages to be infinitely more dinamic despite being a bunch of still images.

Well, I know the anime had a lot of stills due to lack of budget. I understand they did that to cut costs.

I'll try reading it again, then. ^_^

Low budget really wasn't an excuse to screw up the plot and characters. A creative director could have used the low budget factor for humor and in-jokes; Hameln's director wanted to be artsy-fartsy, though, and the result was barely related to the original.

Oh, no. I wasn't defending that or saying it was any excuse. I just know that the stills were put in place to save money. I think that they could have still utilized stills in that manner without screwing up the plot or characters.

Is it bad that I -liked- the stills?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elanor-pam In reply to nemisiscat [2009-08-26 01:06:39 +0000 UTC]

Oh, the stills are pretty enough (if you can ignore the crazy hatching that shows up now and then and half the time seems unrelated to the implied movement...).

But Sleeping Beauty is fully animated, and still any time you hit the pause button you have a breathtaking still. So, you know, I demand movement in my animation.

the manga calms down, but it takes a bit. It's def. way better than the anime.

I REALLY need to read this series now because of all the fanart you do! Makes me want to read it. XD Which publisher is it?

All the facial expressions are excellent! Very defined and full of personality. I also really like all their hair. ^^

It's not published - but it's available at onemanga and similar sites. The translation for the first volumes is kind of wonky, though.

elanor-pam In reply to Zephyr-Love [2009-08-09 23:34:44 +0000 UTC]

It's translated, at onemanga and scythegp.org - unfortunately they used some terribly amateur translations for the first volumes; they are readable but at the same time hair-pullingly frustrating. On the other side these guys did actually complete the whole thing.

There were other groups that had the first few volumes available, but they can't be found anymore, sadly.

Zephyr-Love In reply to elanor-pam [2009-08-10 07:03:14 +0000 UTC]

Frustrating? How so?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elanor-pam In reply to Zephyr-Love [2009-08-16 21:19:47 +0000 UTC]

Well... the original translator for the first volumes was far from fluent in japanese, and tended to stick a lot of curses where there were none, and translate idiomatic expressions literally. Also the dialogue flow was really bad; even someone who didn't know japanese and had english as a second language (as I was years ago when I first came across the txt translations this group used) could tell he wasn't trying to make the conversations read like actual conversations, and that certain sentences made no sense in context.

So, readable, but eyebrow-twitch inducing. It gets better, though.
