Description
A holiday gift for LunaYoshi! It’s five of her “Naku” characters, each attempting to figure out the famed puzzle cube. From left to right: Corinne managed to “figure out one side” so far, while Milo’s plain frustrated at the thing’s deceptive complexity. Meanwhile Napoleon managed to solve his, and Sri is quite amazed at this accomplishment. And Tyler, hoping no one notices, is trying to “solve” his by means of cheating.
Many years ago I was part of an online forum headed by LunaYoshi, a source of inspiration for me. She was refining relatively new characters known as “Nakus,” and one day asked if anyone else were to draw them, or something like that. I kept thinking I said yes then (I may have), and hadn’t drawn them until now. It makes me kinda glad I waited until now to do this, because I think it would’ve just looked terrible. Either way, I hope she likes it!
(BTW Tyler, the orange center is supposed to be on the opposite side of the red one. )

Ah! Many thanks. I followed LunaYoshi's art almost religiously way back when, so I was a little familiar with them. :3

Ahh, Erno Rubik is awesome.. Heh
Your pics are cute in this! And you're right, Orange opposite Red for the "Minus Yellow" style. Then again, that's standard for official Rubik's cubes.
Now I guess we discuss speedcubing and solving methods?
I average 3 and a half minutes, but my best is about 2:40, using the Petrus method.

Rubik is nice. Meffert is okay. But don't mess with Fisher. :3
I'm not the greatest at speed solving, but I can average about 1.5 minutes using a modified form of Dan Brown's method. But that's partially because I have an awesome cube from PUZL.

I have yet to try those other puzzles. Then there's the SquareOne puzzle, I only managed to get it back into a cube. Still have to solve for colors.
Actually, I want to get the Japanese MirrorBlocks Rubik's cube. It's still the same puzzle, but looks so cool!
That and the hollow cube.

I have the Mirror Blocks one. Pretty neat, and an impressive sight when scrambled. But my favorite so far is the Megaminx. I managed to figure out how to figure that thing, and it wasn't quite as complicated as I first thought! It's just a bit disorienting. X3
I used to have a Square One puzzle long ago. It got lost somehow, and I never managed to solve it.

Ooh, I'm jealous.
I haven't tried any of the other puzzles from there. I probably should.
What do you use to time yourself? I managed to get a SpeedStacks timer from Toys R Us for $3 (with the cups and mat) on clearance one time. Got one for my brother, too.

I guess they look okay in my style. Never been much in terms of coloring things well though, so it's pretty flat.

OMG, dude, you totally didn't have to, but *squee* you did, and omgomgomg!!
They all look amazing, and I love the different expressions/levels of accomplishment you invoked them with. XD
*hugs* One of the best Christmas presents evar. Thanks so much.

Well, I'm glad you like it! Merry Christmas! :3
I'll admit, I had some difficulty figuring out the proper details and personalities of the characters. Even with all the source finding I did, there were some things I was uncertain of. So I followed my own wavelength based on my finds.
I could've just focused on one character and saved my wall from those three forehead dents. But I wanted to do Naku art as a group picture, because I found those the most amusing. X3

That's really cute!
You know, when I first saw the preview on the "Deviations" page, I clicked to see what Luna had done. When the full-size loaded, I commented to myself how very "Sketch-style" they looked... Then I realised that Sketch drew them!
...I just woke up. But great job!

I'm amazed at the many personalities this drawing brings up, specially Napoleon's ego attitude. So cute. >v< I'd probably be amazed like Sri at first, and slowly figuring it out like Corinne. ^^

Course, I'd have to leave my cube alone for a few months before I try to solve it once more. :s I love the Nakus!

I'm about two minutes myself. I've extended my abilities into similar puzzles like the Megaminx, which has become my favorite.

I've heard of that. How different is it from the regular cube? Aside from the electronic touch stuff, I mean.

HectorNY In reply to MalamiteLtd [2009-12-26 02:24:20 +0000 UTC]
Unlike the regular cube, in order to move the lights of this cube you have to turn the whole cube to the top face. Also the centers are buttons for hints, to undo, to scramble and even to solve for those who eventually give up on it.

Meh. I already have a version of it on WiiWare. It had four different cubes to solve, online ranking for time, and a very good main game backed with it. And it only set me back about $6.

Heh yeah. They're not easy to figure out the first time. It really takes a good tutorial and time to figure out.
Oddly this and a small Flipnote Studio animation inspired me to draw the Rubik's Cube with his characters a couple of times.
