Description This started out as just a random project that I was messing around with to see that kind of weapon I could make. Originally, this model didn't even have a real name and I was simply calling it the "concept mix", since I was designing this entire model from several unused concepts of models I've already made (namely the HP-45A1, Tomahawk LMG, and M48 Hercules). Eventually I started refining the design into a real weapon that I thought would be cool to place into the Contention storyline as a new weapon. This took a good while to model out but to me the end result looks amazing compared to what it started out as. This might even be my new favorite model that I've done, especially when I tried out some basic colors on it (which I included in this picture). This also gave me a good chance to test out some new rendering settings that I applied here, so If it looks okay I might just use this rendering style from now on. I'd love to know what people think of this one so comments are certainly welcome

PREPARE FOR WALL OF TEXT!

The MR5 series of rifles has been present in the UNMC since the late 2270's, although over its lifetime the rifles have seen many changes and upgrades to compete with rapidly evolving technology. First introduced by Phoenix Weapon Systems as the MR5 in 2278, the rifle served UN forces valiantly during the mid stages of the Rebel Insurgency at the height of the UN's rise to technological superiority over the Allied Confederation and the Unified Republic. The MR5 came with a suite of the newest and most effective weapons developments, including the recent 6.5 x 45 mm CTB round. The MR5 found its place as the UN's standard military rifle until 2305, when HP Industries' new cutting edge rifle was accepted into service, the HP-5C. While the MR5 held a prominent position for several more years, it was ultimately outclassed in every category by the HP-5C and soon most of the UNMC had replaced the rifle. When the rebels retreated in 2315, Phoenix WS took a few years to refine their design and released the updated MR5-A1 in 2321, which received positive feedback from many UN soldiers. With the outbreak of the EMPIRE terrorist organization in 2326, the MR5-A1 got to truly show off its modern abilities, but even still never caught up in widespread use to the HP-5C. Phoenix WS continued to try and perfect their design with the release of the MR5-A2 in 2330, hoping to have the rifle completely replace the HP-5C. However by that time the 5C had become so effective and integrated into the UNMC that replacing the rifle was deemed "unnecessary" as the A2's effectiveness either couldn't match the 5C, or was so close that the differences had no real impact. While the MR5-A2 remained extremely popular on the civilian market, it never reached the breakaway success in the military that had been hoped for.Β

By 2347, the UN was fighting a costly ground battle on Earth against their most dangerous enemy every encountered, a race of ruthless and genocidal beings called Exohumans. Having fought against the Exohumans since 2345, many UN Army Special Forces units had begun to substitute their HP-45A1 rifles for the old MR5-A2, claiming while it was not quite as effective as the 45A1, its seemingly limitless modularity and ability to adapt on the fly was proving invaluable in operations against Exohumans. Hearing these claims, Army representatives of UNMC Command personally contacted Phoenix WS and contracted them for a more modern version of the MR5 for their special forces to utilize. In just a couple months, Phoenix had blueprints and mockups ready to show, and they impressed Army representatives greatly, which led to the green light for development of the new rifle. By 2350, the XAR-SO (Experimental Army Rifle-Spec Ops) had reached its final point and was demonstrated over the course of several weeks to the Army, who quickly praised its advancements and potential combat effectiveness. In just a short time after, the XAR was rebranded as the MR5-A3 and was in official production. The new rifle improved on every level from its previous version, and even adapted to use the now standard 6.8 x 40 mm round as opposed to the 6.5 x 45 used by every previous MR5 model. The rifle entered the battlefields of Earth in mid 2351 used exclusively by Army Spec-ops units, and its reception was overwhelmingly positive. So much so that the weapon was quickly passed on to standard infantry units. While currently only used by an estimated 15,000-20,000 soldiers in the field, the rifle is already planned to enter even more expanded frontline service with infantry, and even the UNAC has shown interest in acquiring models to test with their units. Many Army soldiers claim the A3 to be a superior choice to the HP-45A1, mostly for its even better modularity and flexibility than the A2 which the 45-A1 is admittedly lacking in. Able to excel at a wide variety of combat situations not matter where or when the mission changes, the MR5-A3 has already secured itself a spot in the UNMC for potentially many decades to come.

Thanks, yeah you're right I've since ditched the lighter color and went with a darker grey instead, I think it blends better.Β

I would love to texture it sometime in the future but I gotta work on my texturing skills a lot more, it's not my strong point at allΒ

Great materials too. U.S Camouflage or Hexicam will do too
