Chronos' efforts were crowned with success, and he was able to penetrate the citadel, surrounded by the distortions of the time stream. At the same time, it became clear to Chronos why there are so many distortions in the citadel itself and around it - it literally swarmed with objects that in no case could be stolen from the timeline. The torch that was supposed to burn the Library of Alexandria, the pistol that John Wilkes Booth never found, as a result of which Abraham Lincoln survived, Abin Sur's pass card, which should have allowed him to escape from the exploding ark ship, fly to Earth and to become Superman - everything was there. As well as the people who were kidnapped by the Time Trapper, the owner of this citadel. Attempts to negotiate peacefully did not lead to anything meaningful - the Time Trapper knew perfectly well that his manipulations with the timeline could lead to a temporal apocalypse. In fact, that was what he hoped for. He was convinced that the existing universe was distorted, wrong. The Time Trapper argued that Superman was supposed to be a Kryptonian, and not a native of Ungara, and Lex Luthor was not destined to become a Green Lantern, Metal People should be robots, and Doctor Fate should be a sorcerer, not a guest from the future. And he, the Time Trapper, was going to tear the very fabric of time - and restore it in his own image and likeness. Chronos could not allow this - and fought with the Time Trapper. Their battle destroyed the Time Trapper's citadel and sent the combatants on a frantic flight through the time stream that ended in the Hourman's library in a bubble of frozen time. As soon as Chronos knocked out the Time Trapper, the timeline blinked - and all time distortions disappeared. After rechecking his scanners, Chronos was convinced that the world was saved due to a single change in time. Years ago (or years to go?) Chronos broke into the Hourman's library in the same way, fighting Time Trapper. But then, before losing consciousness, the Time Trapper managed to drop a few phrases about his vision of the universe, which sunk into the soul of the Hourman. Time passed - and the Hourman became obsessed with the idea of changing the universe and turned into a Time Trapper. But it looks like Chronos just averted this future. And the universe continued to exist as it should.
