I really want her to be the one to challenge Gogeta. Akira Toriyama said that a female Super Saiyan would be like nothing we've ever seen before, and I assume he meant powerwise. So, it would make perfect sense to make it so her ssj form could challenge Gogeta.

It's more like it will be an appearance difference. Toriyama probably thinks golden spikey hair looks weird on chicks, to which I can agree. Maybe it will be not spikey but wavey or something along those lines but still gold. Is Selari even a SSJ in the first place? With only SSJ, her beating SSJ4 Gogeta would be a stretch and a half. But Toriyama isn't the writer here, so Malik could make female SSJs as powerful as he wants(I'd settle with equal power boost, though).

I think he meant that their hair wouldn't be gold, but that's just me. Plus it's too ridiculous for someone to challenge Gogeta as a SSJ only. Maybe if they were at least a SSJ3

I don't know, something tells me Masuran (or whatever the oldest son of Rigor is named) will fight Gogeta and hold his own.
Also, all SSJs up to this point have (canonically) have had gold hair. I doubt that the big difference between male and female SSJ is their hair color.
